Bobby Deol seeks hair stylist

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 31 Maret 2013 | 21.44

Bollywood actor Bobby Deol, who was in the capital city Friday afternoon, looked distracted and proclaimed that he needed a stylist to give him an interesting hairdo. He said he was bored of his hair style.

"I'm kind of bored of my hair. I don't like curly hair. I want straight hair. I keep looking at them all the time. But I have lost all hopes now," Bobby said, adding: "But my mom likes it."

The 46-year-old also insisted that he likes staying fit.

"I am happy with my physique. I like staying fit and fine. I take a healthy diet and work out daily," he said.

Bobby asserted that he would not take part in reality TV shows, ever.

"I think I am a shy person. I am not fit for reality TV shows. Appearing on a TV show as a judge is also out of the question as I am still learning, so I can't judge others. But you never know, I might take part. It's like we start liking things later, which we don't like doing at first," he said.

Of late, rumours have it that the actress is a little conscious about her bare back being photographed every time she makes a public appearance.

At a recent fashion event, the shutterbugs went crazy while she was meeting her friends. On turning around, Vidya realised that there were a dozen lensmen photographing her back. She quickly turned to face them murmuring, "Let me turn, they are shooting my back..."

Aamir willing to work with Salman if right script found

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan says he would love to do a film with Salman Khan, if they find the right script.

The two were seen in popular comedy "Andaz Apna Apna".

"I would love to work with Salman. 'Andaz Apna Apna' is one of my favourite films as well. He is a great person to work with. If we come across a script then we will be happy to do it," Aamir told reporters at an event to felicitate the winners of "Talaash" contest.

The actor, currently shooting for Rajkumar Hirani's "P.K", will also be seen in "Dhoom 3" which will be out during Christmas. Aamir is also busy with the second season of "Satyamev Jayate".

The actor said that he doesn't pre-decide the kind of films he wants to do.

"I don't pre-decide what kind of film I want to do. I go through scripts and see if there is something exciting," he said.

The actor who is known as "Mr Perfectionist" said that he doesn't feel he is perfect.

"I feel that there is no such thing as perfection in a creative field like cinema. We are all artistes who are expressing ourselves in a different way. I do consider myself as someone who is extremely passionate. I enjoy my work and really throw myself into it and achieve that perfection," he said.

Aamir, who has given some super hit films like "3 Idiots" and "Taare Zameen Par", said that he doesn't have a secret to his success.

"I am not aware of why I have been successful so far. I don't think so much. I do work which excites me and not work which is considered to have potential for blockbusters. I am not even thinking about that. I want to enjoy my work and challenge and surprise myself," he said.

About a sequel to "3 Idiots", he said that there were no such plans at the moment.

"No I don't think there was any such plans. I am doing 'P.K.' at the moment," he said.

Politicians should watch 'Satyakam': Dharmendra

Lamenting the dearth of good story writers in Bollywood, veteran actor Dharmendra, best known for his performance in the National Award winner "Satyakam", said that every politician should watch the Hrishikesh Mukherjee directed 1969 classic.

"I think telling the truth has stopped today. In 'Satyakam' I told the truth and it was a very good story. I think every politician should see the film.

"Good films are being made but characters like those in 'Satyakam' and 'Bandini' are no longer there in our country," Dharmendendra said at a media conference in Howrah.

Best known for films like "Sholay" and 'Satyakam', the actor was in Kolkata promoting his forthcoming film, Sangeeth Sivan's comedy drama " Yamla Pagla Deewana 2" (YPD) - a sequel to the original.

"Story-writers are not penning such stories and screenplays are also not like that of earlier days. I would be grateful to you people if you can get me some good writer like that and which suits today's people," said Dharmendra.

YPD2 slated to release June 7, stars Dharmendra with his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol in the lead. Giving them company on-screen are leading ladies Neha Sharma and debutant Kristina Akheeva.

Agreeing with his father, Sunny Deol, critically-acclaimed for films like "Arjun" and "Ghayal" said" "We do not have those kind of directors and there are just a handful of them."

"Obviously Indian cinema is a reflection of the country so whatever's is happening around is basically what is seen in the cinema. We want to entertain and we can only give what people want and that's what's happening."

"So if people desire for something good and if there are writers out there who want to get deep-rooted into the country obviously we would make those films and I would love to them," he added.

Anil says his team of writers are working on the titles and will start working on the project soon. Cyber thugs strip Mona Singh of dignity

Best remembered for her stellar debut on TV in 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin', Mona Singh, who enjoys considerable fan following for her modest, girl-next-door sensibilities, was caught unawares by a MMS clip that went viral on Thursday night.

The said MMS shows a woman walking around the house without any clothes on. It is evident from her demeanour that she is comfortable and trusting enough with the person shooting her, to drop her inhibitions. Mona has lodged a complaint with the cyber cell at the D N Road police station in Andheri, claiming the clip is doctored.

The nature of the clip and the its timing, have fuelled speculations that Mona may be a victim of a murkier conspiracy. A source close to Mona's boyfriend, actor VidyutJamwal said, "The clip has emerged at a time when Vidyut's film is about to release. Everyone knows Mona and Vidyut are dating. Someone's tried to make it look as though Vidyut has done this for publicity."

Vidyut is said to be quite disturbed by the insinuations. "He is not even in the video. This definitely seems like someone's out to tarnish their (the couple's) image. Why would anyone want to do this to a girl?" Friends of Mona suspect the MMS is the mastermind of someone who' may've been close to her.

When we spoke to TV actor Karan Oberoi, who had once dated Mona, he said, "If I react to this, it would simply give it undue importance. It is a foolish thing to do because the source can be easily detected. We should not give importance to such incidents that can leave anyone emotionally scarred."

When contacted, Mona replied on the email, "It is just completely disgraceful that someone can go to the extent of morphing my face onto someone else's body to create a sensational video. We have filed a severe complaint at the Cyber Crime Cell and are hoping to find the culprit. People need to, realise that we are respectable women with family and friends we're answerable to.... This needs to stop."

I have grown up as an actor but I am in learning phase: Bobby Deol

Be it action, comedy or drama, Bobby Deol has tried his hand at various genres over the 18 years that he has been in Bollywood -- he is still exploring and says there is nothing like a perfect role for an actor.

The 46-year-old debuted in 1995 with "Barsaat" and gave hits like "Ajnabee", "Soldier" and "Gupt".

"I'm still exploring the industry. I have grown up as an actor but I am in the learning phase. I'll never be satisfied," Bobby told IANS.

Any particular role that he is looking forward to do?

"I feel there's nothing like a dream role for an actor. It should be a dream role for a viewer - something he wants to watch over and again. I love watching old masala films. Now we talk about new cinema. It's not new. It has been always there. So I am looking forward to do more of masala films, a perfect pack of action, comedy, romance," he said.

The actor was promoting his forthcoming film, Sangeeth Sivan's directed " Yamla Pagla Deewana 2".

"For an actor, the journey always continues. It never stops. Before the release of each film, there's stress, anxiety and nervousness... but just one mistake and you are gone.

"I have never restricted myself. I am open to doing all kinds of films - action, thriller, romance and comedy. In fact, I have done many in the past. I am lucky to be born in the family of actors. My dad and brother keep advising me. And it helps," added the actor who was last seen in "Players" (2012).

His forthcoming film, a sequel to the 2011 hit comedy "Yamla Pagla Deewana", also stars Neha Sharma and Kristina Akheeva.

In the film, Bobby is playing the same character of Gajodhar Singh as he did in the original and said "the other characters are also the same, only the situations keep changing."

Greedy society tries to gyp Amitabh Bachchan

Demands Rs 3 crore membership as opposed to the ususal Rs 25,000

Housing societies, it seems, are the new levelers, with none other than the mighty Bachchans engaged in a dispute with one of these collectives. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek are embroiled in a nasty battle with the New India Cooperative Housing Society Ltd over their bungalow Janak, which they use as their private office.

Back in 2004 and 2005, the family had bought six flats in the building from the previous owners. Recently, when they applied for the membership in the society, the managing committee demanded an 'exorbitant' transfer fee. Bachchans were ready to pay Rs 25,000, the legally acceptable fee in case of transfer, but reportedly the society members wanted more.

Several legal notices were exchanged between the two parties and the matter finally reached the deputy registrar. The bungalow at the heart of the dispute, Janak, was earlier known as Nyoma and was owned by one Kantaben Patel.

Spread over 967.36 sq metres, it had six flats. After Patel's death, the property was taken over by a trust as per her will. The trustees sold four flats to Bachchans in 2004. Rest of the flats, sold to two private companies first, were also bought by Bachchans in 2005. The entire property was renamed Janak.

Since the plotis a part of New India CHS, Bachchans applied for membership to the society last year and sent them a cheque for Rs 25,000. The society, however, declined their request. The society's managing committee sent two letters to Bachchans in March and June 2012, stating that the sale of the propertyas well as its use as an office was illegal.

Apart from that, they cited many other reasons for not transferring the property to Bachchans, and asked them to vacate the space. The society also refused to accept the transfer fee sent by Bachchans, claiming that the family owned another property in the neighbouring society in Juhu, where the transfer fee was well over Rs 50 lakh.

"The consideration for transfer of the property is inadequate and grossly undervalued and it being nowhere at the present market value is not acceptable to the society," the society's letter said. Sources revealed that the society was expecting Rs 3 crore, calculated at 10 per cent of the market value of the property, as transfer fee.

Bachchans retorted to the claim by stating that Rs 25,000 was the justified amount as per society laws. They said there was nothing wrong in buying those flats, and using them as personal office. "The society ought to grant consent for assignment of plot and refrain from doing anything contrary to law. Our clients have always been ready and willing to pay legitimate transfer fee to the society and to comply with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and byelaws," responded ABZ Partners, a legal firm hired by the Bachchans.

With no clear end to the dispute, the Bachchans finally approached the deputy registrar's office. The case came up for hearing on March 25 and the next hearing is on April 8. The Bachchans were not available for comments. Mohan Patel, former secretary of the society, said, "The mater is now with the deputy registrar and I cannot discuss it."

Past Imperfect
The New India Cooperative Housing Society is not new to controversies. Recently, the High Court gave an order against the society in a similar case. Unmesh Kamdar, another owner, had bought a plot in the same society on N S Road under the Juhu Vile Parle Scheme from one Harshad Patel in 2004. Kamdar filed an application for society membership on March 30 in 2005. On April 14 the same year, the society rejected his application, citing that his transfer fee was inadequate.

Kamdar then approached the Deputy Registrar of his ward, who declared him a member on August 7, 2006. The society continued their fight by filing a revision application with the Divisional Joint Registrar the following year, which was also rejected in May. Finally, the society filed a writ petition in the High Court in 2007, challenging the interim judgment of the Divisional Joint Registrar. After a six-year legal battle, Kamdar won the case and the court order dismissed the petition.

Saif Ali Khan is perfect man, but taken: Sonal Chauhan

Actress Sonal Chauhan says she finds Saif Ali Khan the perfect man in Bollywood for marriage. Since he's taken, someone like him would do for her, she said at a fashion show.

Asked about her idea of a perfect man for marriage, Sonal said: "I have always said that I think Saif is one man in the industry who I think is a perfect man, but he is already taken so someone like him, may be." The actress was speaking at Neeta Lulla's fashion show.

Bollywood love stories have no logic: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Written By Unknown on Jumat, 29 Maret 2013 | 21.44

Nawazuddin Siddiqui on his love for Ahmedabad, trying a genre that A-listers in B-Town avoid doing and
more

You lived in Ahmedabad for two months last year. What did you like about the city?
My film Patang gave me an opportunity to shoot in old Ahmedabad. The film was premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and received great reviews. But more than the appreciation, I enjoyed the craziness about the people living in old Ahmedabad. I enjoyed the way people hop from one house to another to catch a kite and the way they share their lives with each other. Where do you find this in other cities? Where will you find an aunt coming from nowhere and offering you homemade sabji? All these experiences were really valued in the pols of Ahmedabad precious. Secondly, there are few films that give you an opportunity to form friendships. Patang would be my only film where I formed friendships with the people of the city and they still invite me to have food with them and keep in touch with me.

Will we see you do a light-hearted film?
It depends on what people perceive a light-hearted film to be like. I would love to do a comedy film that will exploit my talent as an actor. People ask me 'why are you doing a horror film? All horror films made in Bollywood are usually B-grade films.' But I feel if you experiment and tell a good story then even a horror film can be entertaining. Frankly I don't understand why horror films are shunned by A-list actors in B-Town! In fact I feel that the so-called romance genre in B-Town are B/C category, because there has been no growth in the romantic movies that Bollywood films churn out every year. It's high time that Bollywood experimented with other genres.

There've been some successful romantic flicks last year.
See, I don't want to name the films but most of Bollywood films in the romantic genre lack logic or sense. Tell me where do you see a couple in real life eating an ice-cream and then suddenly 20 people start dancing in the background? Where would a hero and heroine confess undying love for each other and minutes later you see them serenading each other in a foreign country. I mean those kind of films are unreal are not my cup of tea.

So, what interests you as an actor?
I am inspired by real stories, that involve emotions, relationships and what is actually happening in the society. And the audiences also connect with such movies. The fact that Gangs of Wasseypur, Kahaani, or Talaash worked shows there is an intelligent audience. Otherwise I would not have even existed.

There is rumour that you are fighting a custody battle for your daughter. The rumour is similar to the plot of Aatma. Is this a publicity stunt?
I just spoke with my daughter and wife a few minutes back and trust me everything's in order. I don't know if such rumours have emerged because I am perfectly happy with my wife and daughter. Publicity stunts don't help in making a film sell, a good script does.

Amitabh Bachchan goes nostalgic, recalls history behind Holi songs

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who featured in many popular Holi numbers, went nostalgic as he recalled the history behind many of these hit songs, including 'Rang barse'

In a Facebook post, he said that both 'Rang barse', from the 1981 Bollywood movie "Silsila", and "Hori kheley" from "Baghbaan" are "legacy" of his father and poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

"My entire childhood and later years right up to the film industry time, these were the songs sung by my father ... folk songs of UP... We would pick up a dholak and he would sing," he wrote.

"I repeated this during the times when I worked in Kolkata and early years of the film industry. Yash Chopra used to hear this from me each Holi at Prateeksha, when one day he decided to bring it to film .. and Rang Barse took birth in film ... though the words and tune are all my father's !!

"Then 'Baghbaan' happened. Hori kheley is another Holi song that would be sung by my Father, another folk song. When Ravi Chopra directing the film 'Baghbaan' asked me for a Holi number, I told him I would get one for him ... so Aadesh Srivastava and me sat one night and recorded this ... another contribution by my father.

On March 25, 2012, Charu Khandal, the 28-year-old animator working with Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd , was out with her friends to celebrate her team's proud moment—the National Award for special effects for RA.One.

After the party, she, her sister Ritu Khandal, and friend Vikrant Goel, boarded a rickshaw when a speeding car rammed their vehicle. Charu suffered serious injuries to her head and spine and was left paralysed. She was to get engaged next month.

On March 28 last year, SRK visited Charu and promised to help her financially. One year later, Charu can just about move her neck and wrists. But the Khandal family is bogged down by the hospital bills.

Charu's sister, who was in the rickshaw with her at the time of the accident and managed to get away with minor injuries, says: "My dad, a private tutor in Rajasthan, is the sole bread-winner of the family. He had to take a loan of Rs 12 lakh for Charu's treatment. After Shah Rukh Khan spoke to the hospital authorities, Charu was given VIP treatment. SRK had promised to take care of the finances and his company did pay around Rs 8-10 lakh initally. But since then, we have been trying to reach him, but no one puts us through to him."

The family has even started a campaign on Facebook to raise money for Charu's treatment. Sitting in their modest one-room-kitchen in Versova, Charu's mother Pawan recalled: "We were even conned of around Rs 3 lakh by various people, claiming to cure her."

Still, Charu is happy that Red Chillies has not yet replaced her. "When I visited the office (in a wheelchair), I was happy to see the office is still waiting for me to get back to work."

Her boyfriend, Sagar Thakkar, is still by her side, waiting to get married to her.

When contacted, an official from Red Chillies said: "SRK has been away. We moved office and there have been changes in our teams as well. Thank you for bringing this to our notice. We stand by our promise and will look into it rightaway."

Aamir Khan is keen to reprise his role in 'Dhoom' franchise

The actor wishes to be a part of the future installments of Dhoom, if his character manages to beat the good guys

The thing about a successful franchise is that, the actors are never indispensable. Aamir Khan wants to be an exception.

According to the buzz, the actor, who plays a super villain in Dhoom 3, is keen to reprise his role in future installments. And he has apparently put in a word with the production house that he should be the one playing this character, not any other actor.

Negative leads in the Dhoom franchise have always walked away with the maximum applause.

While Dhoom had John Abraham who rode his superbikes to daring heists, Dhoom 2 had Hrithik Roshan play the consummate con and Dhoom 3 has Aamir Khan, who reportedly plays a baddie who can perform gravity-defying leaps.

TOI had also reported long time back that YRF has plans to rope in Salman for Dhoom 4 and end the franchise by roping their favourite SRK for Dhoom 5.

When contacted, YRF spokesperson said: "Aamir and the whole team is very happy with the way D3 is shaping up and are very excited. However, there is no talk of D4 at this stage."

National Awards are not kind to regional cinema, feels Konkona

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 28 Maret 2013 | 21.44

Konkona Sen Sharma refuses to talk about her marriage, but shares how motherhood has changed her

Konkona Sen Sharma looks gorgeous in a grey and black saree she borrowed from Aparna Sen. "It helps to have a mom like that in more ways than one," quips the actress, who will be seen with her dad, Mukul Sharma, in her next film, Ek Thi Daayan. It is inspired by a short story written in 1977.

"Vishal (Bhardawaj) and dad had met and become friends and they decided to make a film," says Konkona. "But that didn't work out then. It has worked out now... Vishal has been inspired by dad's work and he has added his own inputs." Konkona has lately been seen more in Bengali films than Bollywood.

"This year just turned out to be like that," she says. "It is also the kind of projects that came my way. First of all, there is my mother's Goynar Baksho releasing next month. It has been her dream project for the last 10 years. Then Gautam Ghosh offered a film; how can I ever refuse him? And then I am doing Suman Mukhopadhyay's Shesher Kobita, based on the famous love story by Rabindranath Tagore. I get to play this iconic character Labonya."

Konkona feels the National Awards are not kind to regional cinema. "The reality is that Hindi films dominate," she says. "It is not a fair world, but what can you do? I don't think we should be expecting life or others to be fair towards us. No one owes us anything. It all depends on the choices we make in life."

There has been speculation about strife in her married life, and that she has chosen to be away from Bollywood to avoid probing questions. "Ranvir (Shorey) and I have laughed over all the speculations about our situation," says Konkona. "I have never spoken about my marriage or my relationship openly and I don't want to. I don't think I am answerable to anyone. Let the speculations be."

Haroun, her two-year-old son, has changed her, Konkona says. "I have become far more patient and mellowed down," she says, laughing. "Staying awake in the nights, I guess, changes the personality of the mother. But sometimes, I forget that he is a small child and feel like he's an old soul. I put my head against his chest and feel like he's this old person whom I have known forever."

No colour for RK Films' classics

The banner has decided to stick with black and white for their old films

Recently, RK Films, the banner established by late actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor in 1948, decided to colour the entire slate of their black-and-white films in a bid to revive interest in these classics. However, noble as their intentions were, just when things were about to fall in place, the Kapoor trio including Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv developed cold feet and ended up dropping their plan.

Apparently, Randhir had even held long meetings with studios the likes of Shemaroo and Films Three for the purpose. So what brought on this sudden U-turn? One of the reasons was the high cost of colouring the movies. "RK Films was told colouring each film would cost around Rs 80 lakh, which in turn meant a huge sum, considering the entire library of black and white films," a source told TOI.

Another reason why the Kapoor clan decided against colouring the films was the example set by films like Dilip Kumar starrer Naya Daur and Dev Anand's Hum Dono, both of which failed to create excitement in their coloured avatars.

Reportedly, both, the colour version of Hum Dono that released in 2011 and that of Naya Daur which hit theatres in 2007, got a tepid response from the audience that mainly comprised elderly people.

A source from the trade said: "There is no sense in colouring old films and re-releasing them. How can you ignore the cost of publicity and advertising? If you add that to the colouring process, the cost is humongous. RK Films has done a wise thing. Isn't it always better to be safe than sorry?"

When contacted, Randhir Kapoor confirmed the story. "We don't want to colour our films. We would rather not do it. The ones that have been coloured and re-released didn't do well. We are not idiots to still go ahead and invest in colouring our films," he said.

Classics should be taken on, but correctly: Basu Chatterjee

The creator of classics like Chitchor and Shaukeen gives us his take on remakes and the trend of mindless comedies

The 83-year-old veteran filmmaker hasn't spoken to the media for the longest time. So, Basu Chatterjee sounds surprised when we call him for an interview. He agrees but snaps when we ask him for his address, telling us to 'figure it out'. The maker of classics like Man Pasand and Rajinigandha greets us effusively at his simple Santacruz apartment. Excerpts from the interview:

Should classics be remade? Sai Paranjpye is very upset Chashme Buddoor is being remade. Ditto for your Shaukeen...
At times, it is the producer who takes the call, the director has no say. Rajshri Films tried to remake my Chitchor with Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, which turned out to be a dud. The concept of Chitchor revolved round a 17-year-old girl and they cast Kareena in the lead role, who could never look like 17 or 18. Classics should be taken on, but correctly and only if you are competent enough. Else you have to face the music.

You changed the face of television twice - with Rajini and Byomkesh Bakshi...
I shall never forget those two shows. Do you know I fought with Doordarshan to not split the stories of Byomkesh into two episodes? Oh those were the days (looks away).

Do you watch your daughter Rupali's show Uttran?
Hardly. As needs wane, so does interest in various spheres. I have stopped reading too. Once upon a time, I was a voracious reader. I read so much of English and Bengali literature. But yes, I still very much want to make a film. And I am almost ready with a script, it's a comedy, but... (pauses)

But what?
I am looking for a producer.

Do you feel films today are a wasteful expenditure?
Absolutely. Two-thirds of the films made every year are trash made with commerce in mind.

Comedy was your forte. What do you think of today's filmmakers, who make comedies?
How do they get away with such trash? I guess, the public's taste has deteriorated too. If you make a crass film, you don't lose money. Unless the level of education of our entire nation goes up, things will not improve. In foreign countries, anything even remotely silly is rejected.

It's said Hrishikesh Mukherjee and you made similar films. Was there any rivalry?
Hrishida had lot of raw material. He was born and brought up in Bengal, he made many Bengali films first and made them in Hindi. No, there was no rivalry.

Jaya Bhaduri was your favourite actress. Why didn't you ever work with Rekha and Raakhee?
I requested the principal of FTII to allow Jaya to work in my first film Saara Akash. The principal refused saying she was too young. What kind of a principal was she, who had no foresight. As for Rekha, I was supposed to do a film with her but it didn't work out. And Rakhee? I didn't offer her any role, nothing against her though. Also, Vidya Sinha was a good actress. I introduced her in Rajinigandha.

She was 28 then...
Maybe she was more than 28. You should ask her. Now she may just tell us the truth (laughs). There was one more film, which was very close to my heart, Jeena Yahan. It didn't do well, but that's another story for some other day. Now if you will excuse me, I need to get on to the computer and start writing again. And hey, I have embraced technology and stopped writing with a pen (he settles down to open a saved document on his computer. Apparently it's his new script, and ethics demand we don't peep into it).

Parting question. Have Jaya, Amitabh, Amol, Vidya or anybody else kept in touch with you?
Nobody has kept in touch. Apparently, they are very busy.

Sadashiv Amrapurkar assaulted for taking on water-wasting society

Actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar, known for a number of negative and comedy roles, was allegedly assaulted by people from a neighbouring society, after he informed a news channel about a 'rain dance' there.

Amrapurkar, a resident of Panchdhara society in Yari Road, was to be part of the channel's show in a programme related to the drought situation in Maharashtra. The show was scheduled for Wednesday evening, but Amrapurkar informed the news channel of the Holi celebrations in the neighbouring building Panchvati on Wednesday morning. A news team immediately reached the spot.

"The society had the DJ and rain dance since 9.30 am.They have wasted so much water. I had informed the news channel about this, as they had invited me to be part of their show," said Amrapurkar.

Amrapurkar alleged that a group of inebriated people from Panchvati came and began assaulting the news crew. "They assaulted the cameraman and took away his cassette. They abused and assaulted me as well," he said.

In the meanwhile, someone informed the Versova police, who took Amrapurkar and the injured cameraman to the police station to record their statements. The cameraman was then taken to Cooper Hospital, as he had suffered injuries to his chest and neck.

The police have registered a case of assault and rioting against the accused.

Sridevi became star because of 'Himmatwala': Sajid Khan

Director Sajid Khan, who is looking forward to the Friday release of his film Himmatwala- the official remake of the 1983 blockbuster of the same name, says it was the original film that catapulted veteran actress Sridevi to stardom.

"Sridevi became a star because of Himmatwala. I think that Himmatwala was no less than a Mughal-E-Azam for her," Sajid said in an interview.

The official remake of original Himmatwala, which had actors Jeetendra and Sridevi in the lead, casts Ajay Devgn against south actress Tamannah.

"I personally don't know Sridevi, so I didn't speak with her about the film. I had a word with Jeetuji (Jeentendra) two days before I started shooting the film. He was glad to know that I am directing the film.

"He said I was the right person to make the film, as according to him, I understood this genre very well. He also blessed me," Sajid said.

However, Sajid prefers his film to be called as a "rewrite" and not a "remake" in general sense of the word.

" Himmatwala is one of my top five favourite Bollywood films. I am very fortunate that my name is associated with the movie. The film is a rewrite, and not a remake, based on the original film. The essence of the original film is there in my version, but my treatment is completely different," he said.

Sajid said though he made some changes in the original avatar of Himmatwala, he also carried forward the boisterous melodrama typical of 1980s in the new version.

"The scenes and the characters in my version of the film are completely different. I have added some nuances like slightly over-the-top acting, typical filmy scenes between mother and son which today's youths wouldn't have experienced," Sajid said.

In Bollywood, you have to be in the glamorous image all the time: Asin

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 27 Maret 2013 | 21.44

The southern film industry is far more traditional than Bollywood, which caters to a wider audience and gives opportunities to women in technical fields, says actress Asin Thottumkal after a five-year stint in Hindi films.

"The south Indian film industry is more traditional. This reflects in their work. The cultural differences, language and approach are completely different, while Bollywood is more open and caters to a wider audience," Asin told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.

There is another key difference, she added. Down south "people are ready to accept you the way you are. They appreciate and value simplicity. You don't have to wear make-up or be in your glamorous image when you make public appearances".

"Whereas in Bollywood, it's about creating a star image, a style quotient that you have to carry throughout. You have to be in the glamorous image all the time," said the actress who made a big name for herself in Tamil and Telugu films before she moved to Hindi cinema.

Asin, who debuted opposite Aamir Khan in the 2008 hit "Ghajini", said Bollywood gives a chance to women in varied spheres.

"On the sets, I see a lot of young women technicians, women camerapersons, hairdressers, makeup artists, dress designers, stage designers and technicians... It's not the same in the south," she said.

The 27-year-old however feels the barrier between the two industries is slowly diminishing.

Bollywood filmmakers have taken inspiration from Tamil and Telugu films and remade them in Hindi. "Yuva", "Singham", "Rowdy Rathore" and "Wanted" are some examples.

She is glad "the trend is growing at a fast pace".

"The main purpose is to entertain viewers and that is undoubtedly being done. I also like the fact that a lot of young writers and directors are coming in with fresh original scripts," she added.

Aamir, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar... Asin has romanced some of the top-notch actors of Hindi cinema on the big screen in the last five years and says teaming up with big names helps in growth.

She says she feels "blessed" that Hindi movie buffs had accepted her. "It's not easy."

"Those who migrate from Tollywood or Kollywood or freshers do not really get to work with A-listers. Working with them helps in growth. I am lucky. I worked with Aamir Khan and A.R. Rahman in my first film 'Ghajini'. But I have also put in a lot of hard work to be where I am today," she said.

Before entering Hindi films, she was already a star in the south Indian film industry and featured in films like "Chakram", "Varalaru" and "Dasavathaaram".

Apart from movies, the 27-year-old keeps herself busy with endorsements, but her wish list includes more Bollywood projects.

Asked what kind of roles she was eyeing, Asin said: "I would like to do well-written fresh characters. So far I have played a fun loving girl-next-door. Now I would like to try something different, something more challenging and exciting."

"Ready", "Housefull 2" and "Bol Bachchan" are some of her recent Hindi releases.

Many film stars are dabbling in television but the small screen is not for Asin.

"I haven't thought about it. It's good that film personalities are appearing on TV as hosts or judges but I am not ready for it. I won't do it," she said.

Chronicling the sinister plot by Nathuram Godse and his partners to kill the 'Mahatma', Manohar Malgonkar's book 'The Men Who Killed Gandhi' would soon be made into a film.

Roli Books, the publishers of the book, announced that Cinetek Films have bought the rights for the motion picture to be directed by Siddharth Sengupta.

The book is an account of Gandhi's assassination with details of the plan, the politics revolving around and the trial of Nathuram Godse and his partners in crime - Narayan Apte, Vishnu Karkare, Gopal Godse and Madanlal Pahwa.

The book looks at the reasons why Mahatma Gandhi was killed and how these five men came together and planned the assassination.

The author Malgonkar was then living in New Delhi, only one bungalow away from Birla House, where Gandhiji was killed.

Kangna Ranaut refuses tattoo on cleavage

Kangna Ranaut was to get inked again (after Tanu weds Manu) on her cleavage for her next film Queen, directed by Vikas Bahl.

However this time the actress refused. In TWM, Kangna, in a scene, pulls down her top and shows off a tattoo reading 'Awasthi', her screen boyfriend's name and shocks a prospective groom.

Bahl had wanted a similar element in Queen since Kangna essays the role of a desi girl whose boyfriend ditches her right before their marriage.

But Kangna was not keen on doing a similar act again. She didn't want any comparisons between her two roles.

Bahl says, "I was keen for her to get a tattoo that said 'Queen', but then we discussed and I agreed with her point of view and we dropped the idea completely."

Amitabh Bachchan appeals for dry Holi

Amitabh Bachchan, the star of many hit holi numbers like 'Rang barse' and 'Holi ke din sab mil jaate hai', wants his fans to save water this festival of colours as Maharastra faces water shortage.

The 70-year-old actor took to his Twitter to request his millions of followers to play dry Holi as the state is experiencing one of its worst droughts in the last 40 years.

"Water shortage in Maharashtra... and its only March. What will happen in Summer? Save water! Play a dry Holi," Bachchan tweeted.

Similar sentiments were echoed by actors like Hrithik Roshan and Riteish Deshmukh.

Hrithik has decided to refrain from joining the Holi revelry this year.

"Hrithik won't be celebrating Holi as a mark of solidarity with those who are suffering from the acute water shortage in Maharashtra. Instead, he will only use only a small amount of gulaal to apply a shagun tika as part of the traditional ritual," a source close to the actor said.

Actors Riteish Deshmukh and Ranvir Shorey also tweeted, expressing their concern over the issue.

"The drought situation in Maharashtra is extremely serious this year. Need of the hour is to save water. This holi say NO 2 water. #DryHoli," Riteish said.

Commercial films biggest challenge for heroine: Tamannaah

Although southern star Tamannaah is making her debut in Bollywood with out and out masala movie 'Himmatwala', she sees commercial movies as a biggest challenge for an actress.

"Commercial films are a biggest challenge for an actor, especially for a heroine because there are limited number of scenes in which that person has to perform. When you are part of a commercial film, conviction is even harder...Different age groups relate to commercial films," she said.

The actress, who has done around 27 films down South, clarifies she doesn't work for fame or stardom.

"Even when I was working down south, my main intention was to do good work and good movies. Fame, name, and stardom are great, but that's not the reason I work for," she said.

The 23-year-old's next Hindi film is with Akshay Kumar and she also has "couple of films lined up down south...I enjoy taking different projects."

In Sajid Khan directed Himmatwala, Tamannaah will be seen romancing Ajay Devgn when it would hit the screens Friday.

Uninhibited fun for the TV stars

Written By Unknown on Selasa, 26 Maret 2013 | 21.44

After hours of sweating it out in front of the camera, television actors indulged in some uninhibited fun at the annual, Rang De Colors event. While the special show was meant to be a competition between boys and girls, sources tell us that their good-natured tussle continued off camera as well.

The most enthusiastic among the lot, we hear, was Shiv aka Siddharth Shukla of Balika Vadhu. Quite contrary to his calm and composed on-screen character, Shiv did not leave any opportunity to play pranks on his co- stars and dump them in the pool.

The one person who fell 'prey' to him was Anandi ( Toral Rasputra). Siddharth got a bunch of goodies and tried to sell it to Toral. Unaware that it was a prank, Toral bought all the goodies from him. She realised too late that the goodies she had paid for were, in fact, complementary. Siddharth says, "I have been tagged mischievous since childhood and was known as a prankster. Toral might come across as a tough person, but it was very sweet of her to take it in the right spirit." Toral adds, "Siddharth turned out to be the most mischievous among the lot; he did not leave any chance to pull my leg. I was surprised when I found out the truth, but I guess I should have expected it from him."

Rang De Colors will air on March 27 at 3pm and 5pm on Colors.

Twists and turns during Holi

An hour-long Mahasangam episode — a crossover between telly shows 'Dil Ki Nazar Se Khoobsurat' and 'Anaamika' — will entertain Sony TV viewers this Holi. Amid all their trials and tribulations, Anaamika's Jeet (Mudit Nayar) and Rano (Annie Gill) decide to secretly tie the knot at a temple, leaving chudail Anaamika (Simran Kaur) raging with anger.

After the ceremony, they meet Aaradhya (Soumya Tandon) of Dil Ki Nazar Se Khoobsurat, who invites them to the Holi celebrations at her college. Aaradhya is excited that Ehsaas (Rohit Khurana) will be gracing the event.

Meanwhile, Anaamika wants to be the first person to apply gulal on Jeet and comes disguised as a folk dancer. Jeet gets drawn to the dancer, but Rano intervenes at the right moment to take him back. On the other hand, in a case of mistaken identity, Rahul (Abhishek Malik) is left with the daunting task of projecting himself as Ehsaas at the event and has to speak like the RJ. While Rano fears the unknown force that is drawing Jeet away from her, Ehsaas is anxious to face Aradhya for lack of self-esteem.

The Mahasangam episode will air on March 27 at 7.30 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.

I know how to laugh at myself: Ram Kapoor

Television's biggest star Ram Kapoor makes for an unlikely sex symbol. TOI caught up with the busy actor at his quaint Napean Sea Road apartment, which has a distinct lived-in feel about it. In a free-wheeling chat that was only punctuated by the merry presence of his two kids and a pug, he spoke about his wild past, dealing with female attention and his volatile relationship with his father. Excerpts:

Considering your robust presence on television, did you have to dumb yourself to fit into the industry?
I don't want to let the thought (that I am on top of the pile) get to me. I would rather remind myself constantly that some of the most talented people I have worked with in the last ten years, are still struggling. I have been very lucky. If I choose to be negative, then dumbing myself down may be true. But the truth is, I have reached a position where I get what I want. Nobody tells me what I should do, so I have the creative freedom. Yes, at times I feel the monotony, but I immediately think of how grateful I should be, for being so lucky. TV gave me the opportunity to do bigger bits in films. It reminds me of my insecure phase...

Insecure phase?
That was soon after I married Gautami. She used to work and for two years, I lived off her. You know how difficult it is for an Indian male. But I must say that from the start of our relationship, Gautami seemed to be more confident about me than I was about myself. Today, she keeps telling me, I told you so. It is the four-year method acting course I did at the Stanislavski Acting Academy in the US, that taught me to face my fears.

Talking about the course, we hear you did not even discuss it with your father...
Yes. My father is a very successful man in the corporate world and I am his only son. He had certain dreams for me. I was scared to tell him that I wanted to be an actor. So I joined this film school, but actually, I wanted to go to a method acting school. I tried and was turned down in the first year. I stayed there, doing odd jobs and next year, I tried again. Four years later, only when they (parents) came for my graduation and saw Robert De Niro, who is an alumnus of the school, my father was convinced. Even then, he was sure that I would struggle for a few years and then come back to his corporate world. Today, as a parent, I understand his fears. But not back then. Today, we are close buddies, but it took me ten years in this industry for my dad to finally start respecting my work.

You are a sex symbol. Do you enjoy the female attention?
Yes, it is a lovely feeling. But the truth is, I don't know why they find me sexy. I know myself too well and I know the situation I am in. There was a time when I was thin and had six packs. But now I know I am very out of shape and I'd look hundred times better if I got back into shape. That's why I go on the backfoot when women say they find me sexy.

Does being ridiculed for your weight bother you?
I know how to laugh at myself. And that's perhaps why Ekta (Kapoor) kept coming back to me to play that role in Bade Achche Lagte Hain. Initially, the writers of the serial were worried about making fun of my weight. I told them to go ahead and do it blatantly. I assured them I will carry it well. I do want to lose weight for my children. I don't want them to think being fat is okay. I am not going to be younger and this weight is not healthy.

You have had a wild past...
That's true. Before my marriage, I was really wild and I was very open about it. My wife knows about it. From the age of 19 to 30, I was this mad, wild person. I just wanted to have a good time, not get serious with anyone. I didn't allow relationships to happen and I made it clear to whoever I was with. But that's ten years ago. I married the right person at the right time, and those days are gone.

But we did hear you do get back to your wild days...your name was linked to your co-star of Kasam Se, Roshni Chopra...
Roshni and I have been close since Kasam Se. But the fact is, she is also close to Gautami and her husband Siddharth is my friend too. We have gone on trips together, once on a road trip all over the South of France... when she got pregnant, she came to us to ask for tips...

We hear you can get very abusive...
Yes, but only with people I love. When I am really angry, I clam up, go cold.

Celebs promote dry Holi on twitter

Film and TV artists are known for hosting and enjoying lavish Holi parties, but this year, celebrities are endorsing dry and eco-friendly colours to combat with the severe drought situation that looms over many parts of Maharashtra.

Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Vikramaditya Motwane, Riteish Deshmukh and others are going all out to promote a dry Holi.

Big B took to Twitter to spread the word among his 4,670,000 followers, and posted: "Water shortage in Maharashtra ... and it's only March. What will happen in summer? Save water! Play a dry Holi!"

Popular host Mini Mathur tweeted: "Please urge everyone you know to enjoy a waterless holi. The mere thought of rain dances in the wake of the water crisis is creepy and tasteless."

In fact, singer-actress Suchitra Krishnamurthy said she was invited to a Holi party with bottled water.

"I said distribute the bottles in drought-ridden areas instead. I've been struck off the guest-list," she added.

Nevertheless, celebrities are doing their bit in saving water.

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, who hosts a Holi party at his residence every year, has scrapped his plan this year.

"Because of the drought in Maharashtra, I am not playing Holi this year. Every year I have a Holi party at my home, but this year there is severe water problem, so this time we have decided not to play Holi. People are saying that play dry Holi but what's that, I don't understand. So it's better not to play," Gupta said here.

Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra said: This time on Holi, don't use water. Play Holi without water because there is a drought."

For Vicky Donor actor Ayushmann Khurrana, efforts to save water are important on this festival.

"There is a lot of scarcity of water in Maharashtra. I would only say that we should celebrate Holi without water and save water. Besides, it's not just about Holi, we have to first turn off taps in homes," he said.

Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane says "dry Holi is the way to go".

"Water is our most precious resource that we have. It's a shame and it angers me when I see its wastage. Definitely, we have to save it because if you don't, it's going to go away and we all will be basically dead," he added.

TV actress Soumya Seth, who plays Aradhya in Dil Ki Nazar Se... Khoobsurat, comes from Benares and is used to playing Holi with dye colours, but she too will go dry this time.

"I'm aware about the conditions of Maharashtra districts. Almost 11,000 villages are facing water crisis and 3,905 villages have suffered more than 50 percent crop loss. I am doing my bit and I strongly want everyone to do their bit," she said.

Film on Delhi rape slams casual mindset: Ashis Vidyarthi

Actor Ashis Vidyarthi, who is playing the role of a police officer in the first celluloid depiction of the Delhi gangrape and the massive protests that followed, said his character symbolised the 'chalta hai' attitude of the administration.

"Most rape cases in the country remained unsolved because of the 'chalta hai' attitude," Vidyarthi told reporters on the sets of 'Nirbhaya', the film based on the rape which grabbed international attention.

"Nothing really changes. From people's representative to the lower level officer to the SP and DIG, people are scared to stir the system," Vidyarthi said.

"As an important lead in the movie, my job is to turn people's sympathy toward the celluloid Nirbhaya into anger and outrage," he said.

He said journalists from the real world were asked by director Milan Bhowmik to put uncomfortable questions to him as DGP, the role he plays in the film.

Despite realising the gravity of the situation, all he is concerned about is saving his position even if that amounts to shielding the accused, the actor said.

"The director shows how all hell breaks loose when the media and public wake up to an incident and the administration tries to hide facts," Vidyarthi said.

"Someone tries to save his job, someone tries to save his relatives. But then not everybody does the same," he said.

Sanjay Dutt to start dubbing for 'Zanjeer' this week

Actor Sanjay Dutt, who has been sentenced to five years in jail in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, will start dubbing for " Zanjeer" Thursday, director Apoorva Lakhia said.

Lakhia said they require three days with Sanjay to complete the movie, a remake of 1973 hit of the same name that had starred Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role.

Sanjay, who is playing Sher Khan, originally played by Pran, will start shooting soon after the return of Priyanka Chopra from Miami. Priyanka is playing the female lead opposite Telugu actor Ramcharan in both Hindi and Telugu versions of "Zanjeer".

The Supreme Court, which last week upheld Sanjay's conviction under the Arms Act for illegally possessing weapons, and sent him to five years' imprisonment, asked him to surrender within four weeks of the verdict.

"He is my friend and mentor. Personally, I can't comment much on the way he is feeling. Obviously he is feeling down, but he is taking this in his stride because he respects the constitution of India and the Supreme Court. I have been with him and he is doing pretty well," said Lakhia at a function organised to release the teasers of "Toofan", the Telugu version of "Zanjeer".

Talking about Sanjay, Priyanka said: "For the industry and for me as his colleague and friend, it is a extremely sad moment. I wish the family strength and courage."

She hoped that Sanjay would get some respite from the judiciary keeping in mind his family.

"We all respect the law. What needs to be done, needs to be done," the actress said in obvious reference to the demand for Sanjay's pardon.

Ramcharan Teja, the lead actor for the film, described it as unfortunate.

"We love him. I have fond memories of him. He has been very kind to me. It is quite unfortunate. The whole industry is with him. We all support him. I hope the best happens to him and his family," he said.

"Zanjeer" producer Amit Mehra said it would be released during summer.

"'Toofan' is a big film on its own. Finding a date for their simultaneous release is very critical. We are going through that. We will announce the date shortly but it will be during summer," said Mehra, son of Prakash Mehra, the maker of the original "Zanjeer".

Lakhia added "Zanjeer" is his interpretation of the iconic movie. "We have tried to make it as different as possible. It is a 'Zanjeer' of today. It is also a tribute to Prakash Mehra (director-producer of the original) and Amitabh Bacchan," he added.

The director said when Amit Mehra approached him with the project, his only condition was that he would make the movie with Ramcharan as the hero.

Priyanka's brief was no vulgarity for Babli: Anu Malik

Written By Unknown on Senin, 25 Maret 2013 | 21.44

Music director Anu Malik, who gave the music for Priyanka Chopra's first item number 'Babli Badmaash' in " Shootout in Wadala", says the actress did not want vulgar words or skin show in the song.

"I believe they made a lot of songs that didn't click with Priyanka. Those songs were made by various composers and were rejected by Priyanka. Her brief was that she doesn't want any vulgar words and or skin-show," Malik told PTI.

The musician was not the first choice for the music in Sanjay Gupta directed film. Gupta initially called him to do only one song but he ended up doing three songs including the item number.

On how the concept of 'Babli Badmaash' came about, Malik said, "We were sitting in Sanjay Gupta's office with lyrics writer Kumar. Suddenly I had a vision of Priyanka in front of me. She is really bubbly. So I used the word Babli."

The music director, however, believes that a superstar cannot ensure the success of an item number because a catchy tune/music contributes equally to its popularity.

Talking about Priyanka's reaction to the song, Malik said, "Priyanka had called us to her house after listening to the song. She said, 'I got up humming this tune. Priyanka has a great ear for music."

The music director, who has given memorable songs like 'Chamma Chamma' to Urmila Matondkar, 'Goriye Chali' to Shilpa Shetty, hopes Priyanka will come to be known as 'Babli'.

Malik believes the secret of his more than 30-year long career in Bollywood is his ability to churn out music that public likes.

"I make catchy, easy music which the public can grasp easily. Making an easy song is very tough. I believe in working very hard on the mukhda. The first four lines of the paragraph are the king. Indian public loves the mukhda."

Malik's next film is "Hera Pheri 4".

Enough of 100 crore club, Asin now wants just good roles

Having starred in big budget movies like 'Ghajini' and 'Ready', it would seem Asin is doing fine in Bollywood but the actress says she now wants to do good, well written roles.

The 27-year-old actress is often referred to as the 'Queen of 100 crore films' as five out of her six films in her Bollywood career, including last years' hits 'Bol Bachchan' and 'Khiladi 786', are part of the elite club.

These films, often driven by their male leads, don't have much for their actresses to do when it comes to performance.

"I have taken a conscious decision about my career. This year I plan to take it little slower. The box office record and 100 crore club, big films, good collection- all that has happened.

"I should move forward and try and do more roles which give me more scope to perform. I think it is the right time in my career to take this decision since it is now that I have the freedom to choose my roles," Asin told .

The actress, who began her acting career in the South Indian film industry, turned to Bollywood after establishing herself there. Her first Hindi film, 'Ghajini' opposite Aamir Khan was the remake of her breakthrough film of the same name.

Asin was singled out for acting her part brilliantly and remained in the memory despite sharing screen space with Aamir Khan. Not surprisingly, she was chosen to star alongside superstars like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.

My next is an entertainer with Prabhudheva: Ajay Devgn

The usually shy Ajay Devgn was all the more reserved when he came to Bangalore to promote Himmatwala. While the actor was extremely delighted, on one hand, that he got to visit Bangalore, a city where one of his best friends stays, after many years, he was also disturbed by the final verdict of the Supreme Court given to Sanjay Dutt for being found guilty for possession of arms. "I cannot comment on it. I am already very upset," was all that the actor told the media. Later, he caught up with TOI for a quick chat. Excerpts...

You're in Bangalore after a long time. What are your earliest memories of the city?
It is quite weird that I've not been able to be a part of Bangalore for a long time. During my college days, Bangalore used to be a frequent holiday destination for my friends and me. In fact, one of my closest friends, who used to aspire to be an actor back then, was from here. I, then, shot in the city during the 90's. Unfortunately, I don't know why I haven't shot here recently, for I love this city.

But your south connect, though, seems to be intact, with your recent remakes.
You know, it is always nice to see good scripts translating into good films across languages. And it is important that one acknowledges it when one uses it for a film. In my recent remakes, be it Son of Sardaar, Singham or this one, Himmatwala, we've taken the essence, but the eventual product is very different from the original. But, we've still acknowledged the inspiration.

If you were to remake any of your films today, which would it be?
I don't know... I'm not sure if I would want to remake any of my films. Phool Aur Kaante was a very good film. But, even if I were to remake it, it would have to star someone much younger.

Talking about Phool Aur Kaante, from that film to your latest one, you've been paired opposite a lot of south Indian actresses.
They're all extremely talented ladies. It is just a coincidence that most of my heroines are from the south. Take the case of Tamannaah for instance, she may be a newcomer in Bollywood, but she was a delight to work with, because she has 25 films' experience behind her.

We hear that you will be working with a south director next?
Yes, my next project is with Prabhuvdheva. It is going to be a complete entertainer.

I'm really bad at taking compliments: Bipasha Basu

"When I get complimented for good work, I tell myself 'way to go girl',"says sexy siren, Bipasha Basu in an interview with TOI

Bipasha Basu might have become the second Indian to feature in a recent list of top 100 women in the world by a leading magazine, is a brand name by herself and seems to get bigger with every film, but she confesses that she "doesn't know" what she's done to be in that "list, but it feels great to be in it anyway. I'm really bad at taking compliments, but whenever I get them, I tell myself, 'way to go girl' and move on."

Bipasha, who was in Ahmedabad recently to promote Aatma, says that genres "don't matter" to her and she doesn't think she has done a lot of horror films, contrary to popular misconception.

She says, "I've done 100 odd films in my career, out of that just four are horror films. So that's really not a huge number. Besides, I don't sign a film depending on its genre. I used to do that during my initial days, but I have done too many films to bother about things like genre now. I do a film if it interests me, has a connect with the audience and some entertainment value. The rest doesn't matter."

Even with a lot being written about her personal life in the last one year, Bipasha has excelled professionally. Ask her how she manages to keep personal life separate from her professional and she's quick to reply, "It's been more than two and a half years since my break up, and I have moved on long back. Besides, I am what I am because of all that I have faced in my personal life. In fact my professional life is inspired by what happens in my personal sphere. I have matured a lot as an actress now. At 17 (the age when I debuted in Bollywood), I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to do the kind of roles I am capable of doing now."

Describing what brand Bipasha means to her, she says, "I've always been an unconventional actress. In my first Bollywood film I played a grey character. Then I took up horror films (Raaz), and they worked for me. I am the only actress amongst my contemporaries to have a jubilee hit (in Raaz). It went on to run in the threater for almost 50 weeks, while today's films are only about the first three days, and they are done by the time first week is over." She signs off on that jubilant note.

Go Goa Gone: Saif Ali Khan turns a zombie hunter

Saif Ali Khan's character and look in his next film, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK's Go Goa Gone, is unlike anything he has done before.

The actor plays Boris, a zombie hunter, with blonde hair and innumerable tattoos on his body. The film is an unusual mixture of comedy, camaraderie, slick action and zombies, and also has Kunal Khemu, Vir Das, Anand Tiwary and Puja Gupta.

The actor, who is co-producing the movie with Dinesh Vijan, says, "Boris is tough and cool, but funny too. He is brave and has a good heart. The dynamics between him and the boys are hysterical. I was very excited to play him and even happier to produce this film."

The director duo says, "A zombie film in Hindi was unheard of until recently. But we were sure that this is the film we would like to make after Shor In The City." Saif's partner Dinesh says, "There hasn't been a character like Boris or a concept like this on Indian screen. The zombies will keep you on the edge of your seat and the humour will make you fall off it making it a 'zom-com'!"

Sunil Lulla, who is also a co-producer, says, "Go Goa Gone is about taking the next step in the movie business and we are glad we are a part of this project."

Go Goa Gone, produced by Illuminati Films and Eros International releases May 10.

Ghanchakkar: Vidya Balan turns Punjabi kudi

Vidya Balan plays a loud, robust Punjabi housewife with a bizarre sense of fashion in Raj Kumar Gupta's quirky comedy Ghanchakkar.

Vidya says, "I had great fun playing Nitu Bhatia. She's the hatti-katti Punjabi housewife who we all know. She is the cat's whiskers when it comes to fashion. She is the sort of woman who goes for a walk one day and feels 'exercise kar li na toh ek aur samosa khaane mein koi harj nai.' My costume designer, Subarna Rai Chaudhari, went mad trying to put together the look. What she wears is almost outlandish and even bizarre sometimes... but that's Nitu for you!"

Sanjay Dutt has a survival instinct, says Tusshar Kapoor

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 24 Maret 2013 | 21.44

Tusshar Kapoor, who worked with Sanjay Dutt in 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' is upset with the apex court verdict against the senior actor in the 1993 blasts case.

On Thursday, SC ordered Dutt to serve three-and-a-half years sentence as it reduced to five years the six-year jail term awarded to him by a designated TADA court in 2006. The 53-year-old has already spent 18 months behind the bars.

"I feel saddened about what happened. I don't know what is right and wrong as we don't know the exact information legally. Mr Dutt has strength. His family has faced a lot of things but he has always come out of it and I hope it happens this time as well. He has a survival instinct," Tusshar told reporters.

"I am not in a position (to comment on law) and don't know the law. I feel bad...everyone deserves freedom and he has that right too," he said reacting to the sentence.

Dutt was convicted by the TADA court for illegal possession of a AK- 56 rifle and a 9-mm pistol, which was part of the consignment of weapons and explosives brought to India for the co-ordinated Mumbai serial blasts on March 12, 1993.

Nidhi Subbaiah learning Kathak

Nidhi Subbaiah, who was last seen in Ajab Gazabb Love, has taken a liking to classical dance form kathak. The actress, who has always been fond of dancing, has recently started taking professional lessons and is quite excited about it.

Nidhi's friends and family are well aware of her love for dancing. She has always wanted to be like her favourite actress Madhuri Dixit, who is known for her kathak skills.

Madhuri's perfect moves in Kaahe Chhed (Devdas), choreographed by Birju Maharaj, is one of her favourites. But what inspired her most was watching Kamal Haasan in Vishwaroopam.

Nidhi was blown away by his kathak performance in the film. And ever since that, she has started considering the stalwart as her mentor. So inspired was she by his performance, that she enrolled herself for kathak classes and now dedicates a few hours a week to the dance form. She feels that while the dance form improves her flexibility and grace, it also helps enhance expressions and deepens her ability to emote. She also finds it therapeutic and de-stressing.

Ranbir Kapoor doesn't want to clash with Salman Khan

Abhinav Kashyap may be wanting to take Salman Khan head on by releasing his film Besharam on the same day as Khan's Mental but if rumours are to be believed the film's lead Ranbir Kapoor is shying away from direct competition with the industry's numero uno.

As per reliable sources, when reports of Salman planning to release his film on October 2 started appearing, the date that is already secured by the producers of Besharam, Ranbir suggested that they move the date whereas Abhinav was adamant.

'Why should we move our date?' he was heard saying. Speculations are rife that Salman wants to take on both, Ranbir and Abhinav.

While Salman and Ranbir share a history of sorts with their blow-hot blow-cold relationship, Abhinav reportedly had a fallout with the Khans during the making of Dabangg.

Well, if Salman sticks to his plan and goes ahead with the release on October 2, it can be an opportune moment for Ranbir to prove his star power at the box office.

Also, his film is an out-and-out commercial, but looks like he is chickening out from the situation and doesn't intend taking the risk.

Sonam Kapoor wants to do father's film 'Tezaab'

Written By Unknown on Jumat, 22 Maret 2013 | 21.44

Even as filmmakers are revisiting old blockbusters of the 80s and 90s, actress Sonam Kapoor says that she is not particularly fond of movies made in that period but would love to do Anil Kapoor-Madhuri Dixit starrer 'Tezaab'.

"I am not a huge fan of 80s and 90s as they were hero centric. If I had to play a role now it has to be of a hero.

So if anything had to be remade I would love to be Ms India if not Mr India. I would love to play male characters," Sonam told PTI.

"I would love to do 'Tezaab' again," she said.

Her father Anil Kapoor ruled Bollywood at that time with films like 'Tezaab', 'Beta', 'Lamhe', and 'Mr India' among others.

The 27-year-old actress is currently shooting for Yash Raj Films untitled project with Ayushmann Khurrana. "We have already finished the first schedule of the film. I am very happy the way things are going on," she said.

She will also be sporting a bikini in an untitled film which is being helmed by director Nupur Asthana.

When asked about her reservations earlier, she said, "My body was not ready to wear swim suit and I was honest and direct about it. Whether I wear it or not is nobody's business. Is it a big deal like me wearing a bikini?"

I am shattered and in emotional distress: Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt said on Thursday he is 'shattered' by the Supreme Court verdict sentencing him to five years in prison in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case. He said he will complete all his pending films, and that he ought to be strong in these trying times for his family and children.

"I have already suffered for 20 years and been in jail for 18 months. If they want me to suffer more I have to be strong. I am heart broken because today along with me, my three children and my wife and my family will undergo the punishment," Sanjay said in a statement.

Sanjay, who has been asked to surrender within four weeks and has projects estimated at Rs.100 crore riding on him, added, "I have always respected the judicial system and will continue to do so, even with tears in my eyes. I am going to complete all my films and won't let anyone down. I am overwhelmed by the support of my fans the industry people, the media and all the well wishers."

Sanjay is currently married to Manyata, with whom he entered wedlock in 2008. She is his third wife. The actor has two children with Manyata - twins Shahraan and Iqra - and elder daughter Trishala from his first wife Richa Sharma.

The actor, who was convicted under the Arms Act for illegally possessing weapons, had been awarded six years imprisonment by the TADA (Terrorists and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act) court. However, the apex court reduced the sentence from six years to five years. This effectively means that Dutt will be in jail for three years and six months as he has already undergone 18 months imprisonment.

The apex court Thursday upheld Sanjay's conviction under the Arms Act in the terror attack for illegal possession of a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle.

The Supreme Court also upheld the death sentence of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and commuted the death sentence of 10 others in relation with the blasts, in which a series of 13 car bomb blasts ripped across Mumbai.

Several actors and filmmakers from the Hindi movie industry came out on social networking sites to share how "good-hearted" the 53-year-old, Bollywood's much-loved "Munna Bhai" really is.

"I know in my heart that I have always been a good human being, respected the system and always been loyal to my country. My family is very emotional right now and I have to be strong for them. I am shattered and in emotional distress. I am sorry I can't come down and meet you all. God is great and he will guide me through this," Sanjay added.

Sanjay, the son of Bollywood legends Nargis and Sunil Dutt, has films like the Zanjeer remake, Policegiri, Munna Bhai 3 and P.K. in the works.

Saif Ali Khan gets into a tiff with CISF at airport

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan on Thursday had a tiff with security personnel at the Chowdhary Charan Singh airport here after he was asked to vacate the VIP lounge.

An ugly row ensued when the actor sat in the VIP lounge and was asked to move out by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as he was not in the list of VIPs entitled to the facility. "When the actor refused to move out and tried to throw around his weight, he was forcibly evicted from the lounge," said an airport source.

The furious actor then created a scene, only to sober down when senior officials intervened. Saif Ali Khan had arrived in Lucknow to take part in the shooting of Bullet Raja two days back and was headed to New Delhi.

After the tiff, he waited in the open area like any other traveller and left on a Jet Airways flight.

Confirming the incident, CISF commandant Gyanendra Kumar told IANS that the actor was asked to leave after airport officials brought it to their notice that he was an unauthorized occupant of the VIP lounge.

The actor could not be reached for comments.

Sonam takes Rekha's blessings for 'Khubsoorat' shoot

Actress Sonam Kapoor, who reprises the role that Rekha played in the 1980 family comedy "Khubsoorat" in its remake, says she sought the blessings of the veteran stunner before beginning to shoot for it.

"We are just taking the spirit of the character and putting it in a modern way. We are modernising it and just keeping the spirit of the girl. We are not sticking to the same story line," she added.

Shah Rukh did not edit me out: Annu Kapoor

Annu Kapoor, who recently won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for his quirky portrayal of a Dr Chaddha in 'Vicky Donor', is a happy man today. Finally, his contribution in the film has been acknowledged. And he says,"I am humbled by the award and accept it with lot of graciousness."

The actor, who has hardly found a mention in the award speeches by the filmmakers at various events, says that although it initially bothered him, he has no bitterness for anyone anymore.

Talking about award functions, Kapoor mentions how some time back his acceptance speech was deleted in the final edit when the event was telecast. But, not all experiences were similar.

He says, "When Shah Rukh asked me to say something after I accepted the Filmfare Award, I told him about the incident. He promised not to clip my speech and when it was televised."

SRK kept his word and a grateful Kapoor messaged him in gratitude.

Vicky Donor was a milestone in Kapoor's career with most admitting that it was his role that made the film so popular. Kapoor laughs and says, "Not many times it has happened in Indian cinema that an actor has imitated a character actor at award functions," referring to Shahid Kapoor's Dr Chaddha gig.

When asked him if the star-struck film industry has finally started to take him seriously, he says, "Things are changing. But talent and success still don't go hand in hand here."

This is not Kapoor's first brush with the National Awards, the actor-director-singer won the Best Director - V Shantaram Award for Abhay. He says, "I am totally in mood to direct another film. I will start working on a script soon."

Hrithik Roshan wraps up 'Krissh 3', busy in post-production

It is his prize project and Hrithik Roshan is taking no chances with it.

Krissh 3

, which has just wrapped up, has entered its crucial post production stage. The first promo is being edited at a studio in the suburbs, which is run by Binny Padda. It is a studio that specialises in cutting promotional trailers, and has films such as Ghajini, Rockstar, and Koi Mil Gaya to their credit.

According to eye-witnesses, Hrithik has been spending long hours at the studio, often burning the midnight oil in the process.

Said a source, "Anyone who walks into the studio at any time of day or night, is likely to bump into him. For weeks now he has been ensconced in the editing room, overseeing every bit of the trailers which will not go on air before the middle of this year." This is hardly surprising considering how special-effects-heavy the film is.

However, the film, which was supposed to be converted into the 3-D format, will not be so.

Confirming this, Rakesh Roshan told us, "Krrish 3 is not happening in 3D."

Buzz is, this decision was initiated by the fact that many of the big blockbusters in 3D in the recent past did not got the cash registers ringing.

Salman's hit-and-run case: Court to hear case from March 25

The Sessions court of Mumbai has fixed the hearing of 2002 hit-and-run case against Bollywood actor Salman Khan on March 25, when he would have to remain present before the court.

Along with the prosecution's case against Salman, the court would also hear his appeal against the Magistrate's order, invoking the charge of 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder' against him which attracts a punishment upto ten years in prison.

Sessions Judge U B Hejib has scheduled the hearing for March 25, and Salman had been asked to be present on that day, court sources told.

It would be Salman's first appearance before the Sessions court after Bandra Magistrate's court referred the case to the Sessions Court (because the offence he is now charged with is serious).

The Magistrate had asked Salman to appear before the Sessions court on March 11, but he did not go to the court that day as the case was yet to be assigned to any judge. Sources said as there would be a fresh trial. Evidence produced before the Magistrate's court would not be considered, they said.

One person was killed and four injured when a Land Cruiser, allegedly driven by Salman, ran over the people sleeping on pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra in the wee hours of September 28, 2002.

On March 8, advocate Ashok Mundargi, Salman's lawyer, had urged the Sessions court to hear the main case against the actor and his appeal against Magistrate's order invoking the charge of 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder' (section 304 part II of IPC) simultaneously.

Bollywood on Sanjay Dutt's sentence, says he doesn't deserve it

Calling it a "massive blow", Bollywood fraternity today expressed sadness and shock after Sanjay Dutt was sentence to five years in jail by the Supreme Court for illegal arms possession during the 1993 serial Mumbai blasts.

The 53-year-old has already served 18 months of his term and will now have to spend three and a half years in jail. The court has given the actor four weeks time to surrender.

The fate of three big budget films is riding on Dutt with 'Zanjeer' remake, 'Policegiri' and Rajkumar Hirani's 'Peekay', currently under production. Dutt was also slated to reprise his role of a lovable goon in Hirani's third Munnabhai film, whose future remains unclear now.

Director-producer Karan Johar, who has signed Dutt in his upcoming film 'Ungli', said, "I am truly shattered to hear of Sanju's sentence... the nicest guy I have known just doesn't deserve this... My heart goes out to him."

Director Subhash Kapoor, who was recently signed on to shoot the third 'Munnabhai film, said he was surprised by the judgement.

"I am in shock and surprised. I personally expected the Supreme Court to be more lenient to him. Have no words to express my shock," Kapoor told .

When asked whether the judgement will affect the fate of the third Munnabhai film, Kapoor said, "It's too early to comment on this issue. My producers Vidhu Vinod Chopra is in America now and Raju (Hirani) is busy shooting 'Peekay'. Once Vidhu gets back, I will speak to him about this. The film was in a very nascent stage."

Director Kunal Kohli too batted for Dutt, saying, "The '93 blast case should not be made about Sanjay Dutt. The Real planners are sitting safely in Pakistan like Osama Bin Laden was."

Some filmmakers and actors even took to Twitter to share their views on the conviction. Here's what they had to say:

Mahesh Bhatt: Heart Broken. Just heard that Sanjay Dutt has to go to jail for five years. I expected mercy! Alas, it did not happen.

Vishal Dadlani: I stand with Sanjay Dutt, always will. He's my brother. He made mistakes, but he's served more than his time, in terms of mental stress. I am not contesting or denying the law, but it breaks my heart that he has to face this. He has done so much, so selflessly for so many! When I barely knew him, I needed some personal help in a family matter. I just asked, and Sanjay went above and beyond duty to help. I'm not denying the law. But am I not allowed to feel sad for a friend?

Shekhar Ravijani: He's the most loved person in the business. One of the nicest people I know. Man with a big heart. My brother. I am with Sanjay Dutt.

Ashish Chowdhry: There are bad guys, there are nice guys. Sanjay Dutt most definitely is the latter. By far he's the kindest and nicest guy I know. I'm really sad.

Ashvin Kumar’s second consecutive win

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 20 Maret 2013 | 21.44

This is the second consecutive year win for Ashvin Kumar - he won the National Award for Best Film On Social Issues for Inshallah Football last year, and this year, it's Best Investigative Film for Inshallah Kashmir.

"I am glad for this film in particular, because we're all trying to move towards a single goal - that of bringing the Kashmir issue to a peaceful resolution. As a filmmaker, I could expose what is actually happening there in the past 20-25 years, things the media has not highlighted for various reasons. My idea was to change the misconception of what the Kashmiris want. I think democracy is not complete when some part of the country is under Army rule. And this movie - it takes on the Army and the institution and system head on, highlighting the disturbing things happening there. After all, the Kashmir valley is but a metaphor for say many other stricken states in the country where the people are being repressed by the armed forces," he says.

"The National Award is, for me, a recognition by the state of all the above factors. But the tragedy is that for me, even after two consecutive trophies, it has just remained that moment when you shake hands with the Vice President and exchange pleasantries. Far from opening doors... what's the point? I think the state should make it mandatory to show these films on Doordarshan. Anyway, since I knew that wasn't going to happen, I uploaded Inshallah Kashmir online yesterday. My goal is that people should see it - that's the bottom line for every filmmaker, isn't it?" he adds.

FTII celebrates its victory

In spite of bagging eight awards in the 60th edition of the National Film Awards, the Film and Television Institute alumni are seeking a platform where they can reach out to a large number of audiences to showcase their short films. The winners, including Vikrant Pawar and Abhimanyu Dange (three awards for the short film Kaatal), Kaushal Oza (Best Film on Family Values — After Glow), Avinash Arun and Andrea Lannetta (Special jury mention — Allah is Great), are on cloud nine but they want a platform apart from film festivals where they can screen it for the general public.

"There is a lack of exposure in terms of bringing the films in front of an audience. This is the main problem we face while making short films," says Vikrant Pawar, who has also assisted acclaimed filmmaker Girish Kulkarni on films like Deool and Vihir. Pawar along with Kulkarni, recently launched a short film club where these award winning films will be screened. Short films, for Pawar, are a different form of cinema, which "still needs to be accepted by audiences at large."
However, reaching out to a wider audience, still seems to be a "challenge" for them.

"FTII, being a government institute, also needs to initiate certain channels for us to take our films to more viewers. These films, which are a part of our academic programme, are an FTII production and they need to distribute its rights in a way so that a market for short films is created," feels Kaushal, who had earlier bagged the best debut director award, for Vaishnav Jan Toh, at the National Film Awards in 2010. Despite the prestigious award, Oza still has to give references about his work when he approaches filmmakers.

The debate is still on whether the films these students direct should be or should not be screened at theatres. "It could be good if we get to screen our films in theatres, just before a feature film is screened. This could at least give us a wider platform and cater to viewers who would be willing to see these films," Oza adds. However, not all from FTII consider this ideal.

"We cannot impose our films on the audience as they are completely different from mainstream Bollywood films. People go to theatres to watch a different kind of cinema. And it would not be fair to screen films which might not even interest them," says Abhimanyu Dange, who won the best cinematography award for Kaatal. Avinash Arun, (assistant cinematographer of Allah is...), feels that an initiative of reaching out to more viewers, can be "a good push for the students as well." "As a part of the graduation project, we make films which are very good. But not all films win National Awards. Screening of such films can encourage us to work better," says Arun who has earlier worked on the film Kai Po Che, as an assistant cinematographer.

After Glow, Kaushal Oza: The film is about a Parsi widow and her memories of her husband

Kaatal, Vikrant Pawar: The film is based on relationships and has a fragile and daring cinematography

Allah is Great, Avinash Arun: This film is about a foreigner who comes to India and misses his flight
Director Speak:
"It is a great stepping stone for our students. A lot of festivals are increasingly screening the films. Yes, quality short films made by students face problems but there is a market that is evolving."
