Huma refuses to shake a leg with John Abraham

Written By Unknown on Senin, 30 September 2013 | 21.44

Huma Qureshi has turned down the offer to perform a special song and dance number with John Abraham in 'Welcome Back'. Industry insiders tell us that though the actress was keen on the opportunity, she was not happy with the paycheque being offered. But a friend of the actor's offered another take.

"The makers of the film were very keen on signing her for the song but other commitments came in the way of her chance to dance with John," said a source close to Huma.

However, the director of the film Anees Bazmee confirmed that both the reasons are true. "We wanted to have her in the song but then there were date issues. Also, she asked for a lot of money and that became a problem for us." Now, Anees has cast six new faces with John being the centre of the show.

Bazmee is currently shooting the same song in Chandivali with John Abraham and the actor is being choreographed by Ganesh Acharya.

Fire forces Kapil to move into dadi’s house

We had recently reported how, after a mysterious fire gutted the set of Kapil Sharma's comedy show, Comedy Nights With Kapil, the channel had frantically started looking out for a makeshift arrangement.

We too reported that the Lonavala set of Bigg Boss 7, which is hosted by Salman Khan, has been zeroed in for shooting Kapil's show. It will be shown that Kapil and his whole family had to move into his dadi's (played by Ali Agar's house) to keep the flow of the show. It will be shown that Kapil had to shift as his own house was burnt. He will move back to his own house once it's reconstructed.

Says a source associated with the show, "We respect our viewers and know that they are attached to the show. We don't want them to feel cheated by making a new set. In order to make them feel a part of the family, the script will show Kapil losing his house to fire and shifting to his dadi's house. The audiences are a part of our family and we will be as transparent as we can. We hope they keep showering their love on us despite these contingencies." We hope so too.

SRK, Lata Mangeshkar offer help to Kapil

Popular comedian Kapil Sharma has been overwhelmed at being offered help from legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and superstar Shah Rukh Khan after his show set was damaged in a fire.

A massive fire had broken out recently on the sets of hit show 'Comedy Nights With Kapil' at Goregaon Film city. However, there were no casualties in the mishap.

The show, aired on Colors channel, is hosted by Kapil and often sees Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh, Rohit Shetty, Deepika Padukone, Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra, Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Anil Kapoor and others using the platform to promote their upcoming films.

"I got a call from Lataji and she asked if I need any kind of help, whether monetary or anything. She asked what can I do for you... Her call was a big thing," Kapil said.

"Also Shah Rukh Khan, Rohit Shetty and lot of people from the industry called me and said 'hum tumhare saath hai, batao kitne din mein set khada karna hai' (we are with you, tell in how many days the set has to be put up). The industry is like a family," he said.

Kapil says the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained as investigation is still on.

"We will come to know the exact loss... The figures only after the police verification," he said.

He rubbished rumours of a conspiracy behind the fire.

Kapil felt disappointed as he was unable to shoot with singer Sonu Nigam due to mishap.

"We were even planning to shoot with Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan for the promotion of their forthcoming films. But unfortunately due to the tragedy, we are trying to work out things," he said.

However, Kapil is quite happy that people are loving his show and he hopes it to continue. Two episodes supposed to be aired on this weekend have already been shot. But, for the upcoming episodes they will be shooting on the sets of 'Bigg Boss' show.

"It's not an easy job to reconstruct a huge set in such a short time. The channel is also trying to get the best floor to reconstruct a new set. We have a huge set up and we don't want to compromise with it," he added.

Actor should never be judged by box office: Manoj Bajpayee

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 29 September 2013 | 21.44

Without much ado, two-time National award winner Manoj Bajpayee — he won the Best Supporting Actor award for Satya (1998) and a Special Jury award for Pinjar (2003) — admits that Hindi cinema is indeed in an evolved and exciting space.

Films of various scales and genres are being acknowledged and in this scenario, the one who is being spoilt for choice is the actor. "It is a very exciting time for an actor like me," he smiles, adding, "I'm fortunate to be able to juggle between genres. If you have observed four of my last five releases — Gangs Of Wasseypur, Special 26, Shootout At Wadala and Satyagraha — you would have noticed how different they are from each other. For me, the high is that I got to indulge myself as an actor in all of them. More importantly, I won the required notices."

And while Manoj admits that he gets to choose the script he wants from the half a dozen that make it to his table, he remarks on how an actor is still never satisfied.

"I don't know if it is only me. Sometimes, I think it's the problem with all good actors. We are a cursed lot. Even when the going is fantastic, we're never satisfied. We're always thirsting to do something more. Creativity always hungers for higher standards," he says.

The actor, who recently won superlatives for Satyagraha, where he played the antagonist opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn, says, "Another thing that required change is the thinking. According to me, a good actor or a good technician should not be judged by the box office."

Manoj adds, "How can you take away the laurels from an award-winning sound recordist if his film doesn't do numbers? Likewise, an actor's job is to deliver satisfaction. Yet, people judge you by the numbers your films make. Box office is often beyond anyone's control."

The Box office may be the way it is, but what the actor gets a high from is the kind of respect he has come to enjoy. Be it working with the Hindi film icon, Amitabh Bachchan (Satyagraha), or the Gen-Now sweetheart, Ranbir Kapoor (Raajneeti), Manoj has got tremendous respect from his co-stars.

Says he, "Well, it's a mutual give and take. It's good when we work as a unit and respect each other's strengths. On one level, ours is a cut-throat industry. But on another level, it gives you more than you have bargained for by way of admiration. It is important not to be judgemental. It's also imperative to give you co-actors their space and in return secure your own space."

Of his current assignments, Neeraj Pandey's Saat Ucchake and Rajesh Pillai's Traffic, Manoj says the common factor is that both films have an ensemble of fairly new cast. He says, "And this again, is a luxury for an actor like me. Not only can I choose the genre I want, I'm also happy to work without fear in these varied set-ups. Frankly, just like it is enriching to be able to combine your talent with that of other stalwarts or superstars, it is equally exciting to be able to work with rank newcomers. The novelty they bring to the table is like that of the hidden card, which may help you turn the game in your favour."

Akshay Kumar likes to endorse new talent

Akshay Kumar, it seems, likes to endorse new talent. Besides promoting Shiv Pandit, who plays a key role in his upcoming release Boss, the actor-producer gave actor Aakash Dabhade a lucky break too.

A source reveals, "It so happened that one day while watching TV, Akshay noticed Aakash in a commercial for a mobile company. Impressed by his sense of humour and acting, he immediately told his team to get in touch with Aakash and signed him on, without an audition."

Apparently, many established names were shortlisted for this pivotal role in Boss, but Akshay was not convinced. Insiders say that Aakash is definitely one to watch out for.

Boss, produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Cape Of Good Films and Ashwin Varde Productions, releases October 16.

'Chennai Express' turns nuisance for Salman, Aamir?

After the unprecedented success of Shahrukh's Chennai Express, it seems that Salman and Aamir both stars are under stress. The movie has not only shattered all previous records of Salman's Ek Tha Tiger and Aamir's 3 Idiots but also created new ones.

Look at the revenues earned by Chennai Express till date and you will realise why the movie has become a nuisance for Bollywood biggies.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh's tweet, "#ChennaiExpress crosses $ 19 million (119 cr) in international markets. Still running. More new markets on the anvil. In the US-Canada, it earned $ 5.28 million, (approx. 33.11 cr), UAE-GCC- AED $ 17.3 million (29.54 cr), UK £ 2.16 million (21.68 cr), Pakistan $ 900k (5.6 cr), Australia A$ 800k (4.68 cr) and $ 660k (3.28 cr) from Singapore."

In domestic market, the movie has earned approx. 226.70 cr, which is higher than 3 iditos (202.57 cr) and Ek Tha Tiger (185. 28cr). So it is clearly visible that the new benchmarks set by the film are hard to break easily and this has raised the blood pressure level of his peers. Will their films generate more than 200 cr business while beating SRK film's records?

Even Salman admitted at an event that he is perturbed by the smashing records of Chennai Express. He said that if he has to beat someone then he will beat him with his work. "We will also try and beat the records set by his film and my next film will be the answer to all records. This kind of competition is good. Beat the other person with your work," he iterated.

However, Aamir though refused to compete with SRK's Chennai Express saying that for him entertaining his audience is more satisfying than breaking records yet industry insiders believe that since Talaash also couldn't make much moolah at the box office so it's necessary for Dhoom 3 to revive his lost magic.

"Surely there is a pressure on Aamir and Salman as their rivalry with Shahrukh is well known. In film industry, a star's status is now measure by his film's box-office collection, especially after the invention of the 100 crore club tag. Even Shahrukh had been facing this pressure before Chennai Express release, so how can Aamir, Salman or any famed actor evade this," says a producer in the name of anonymity.

However, producer-director Karan Johar believes that Rs.100 crore is restricting the limit. "Rs.100 crore is limiting the growth and content (of films). The way our films are making a mark soon the time will come when we'll talk about 1000 crore club. Enjoy a film and praise the performance of an actor, this is all what I believe. If a film is liked by the audience, it will surely earn and run at the box-office. Remember, records are made to be broken."

Similarly producer Mukesh Bhatt says that comparing any actor's success on the basis of 100 crore business is unfair, "If our films are doing 100 crore business, it's a good sign for the industry as behind a film, there are many people's efforts so the success also meant a lot to them but judging an actor's talent on this tag is not a justice to his accomplishments."

Whose film will break Chennai Express records, it is yet to be witnessed but the way Salman and Aamir trying to perk up their upcoming films (changing titles, action sequences, reshooting etc..), surely there is something disturbing them. Is Shahrukh listening?

Comparisons are inevitable: Shraddha Kapoor

After the success of her movie 'Aashiqui 2', actress Shraddha Kapoor seems charged to secure a position in Bollywood. She is well aware that comparisons with her contemporaries are bound to happen and is up for it.

The 24-year-old wants to focus on her work and improve herself rather than focusing on the rat race in the film industry.

"Comparisons are inevitable whether I like it or not. I think the best way to go about it is to concentrate on what I do and not shift my focus. I only want to better myself as an actor because I am here living out my childhood dream. I want to look back and say that yes I made it happen my way," Shraddha told IANS.

The actress made way into everyone's heart by playing the role of a humble singer Arohi. But now wants to explore because she believes in moulding herself into any character.

"I would like to do any kind of role. I would like to believe that I can be moulded into any kind of role. There is nothing in particular that I want to do," said Shraddha.

The actress idolises Sridevi and her work, but does not wish to ape anyone in her career.

"I like to dabble in something that fits naturally with me and not emulate anybody else. I feel like I can make a place of my own just the way actresses today have been doing," she said.

Daughter of actor Shakti Kapoor and Shivangi Kolhapure, Shraddha is glad about her upbringing as her father and mother have been very supportive of her decisions.

"My entire family is extremely supportive of what I decide to do. I wanted to drop out of college so they supported me in that. My mom is my best friend, so I can talk about anything to her," she said.

Asked where she sees herself five years from now, Shraddha said: "I am taking each day as it comes and I am enjoying it that way. It's wonderful that way. That is exactly how I enjoyed 'Aashiqui 2' as well. Five years down the line, I would want to look back and say, 'Hey I was part of some good films'."

She will be part of a song in 'Ungli' directed by Rensil D'Silva. She has also signed a new project, but refuses to reveal about it right now.

Sources tell Mirror that the two have been roped in by Zoya Akhtar for her next film. Their relationship is rumoured to have met a not so amicable end but the actors have agreed to be a part of the project despite their awry equation

Yami says no to item numbers

Written By Unknown on Jumat, 27 September 2013 | 21.44

Life has changed completely for actress Yami Gautam post the success of Vicky Donor. "To be true, life has definitely changed a lot. For example, addressing the media and being a part of press conferences was not that frequent earlier. The exposure is greater now; it is almost like an ocean," smiles Yami, who was in Lucknow recently.

Slow but steady After the release of 'Vicky Donor' last year, Yami has been conspicuous by her absence on the silver screen. "I had a lot of offers post the success of the movie. But I have signed only two films, since I have my own pace of doing things. I didn't just rush into signing films after 'Vicky Donor'. My next film is going to be 'Aman Ki Asha', which is being directed by Neeraj Pandey, who has also directed 'Special 26' and 'A Wednesday'. I play Asha in the film, a London-based Punjabi girl. I have just finished shooting for it in London. The next film that I am going to start shooting for next month onwards is with Ajay Devgn. The movie will be directed by Prabhudheva," says Yami, who is quite excited about being paired opposite Ajay. "Ajay is not just one of the biggest stars of the country but a very fine actor too. In terms of genres, the movie is going to be very different from 'Vicky Donor' and 'Aman Ki Asha'. So, I am really looking forward to working with Ajay in the film," she adds.

No to item numbers While most actresses might be happy doing item numbers in movies, Yami is consciously staying away from them. The actress was recently quoted as saying in an interview that item numbers are a strict no for her. "I am not really fond of doing item numbers. I'm just staying focussed on my work - that is acting. Item numbers are something that I am not really looking at," she avers.

The journey so far Ask Yami about her journey so far in the industry and she says, "The most challenging part about my journey so far has been moving from Chandigarh to Mumbai because that was something that I didn't expect. I was just a regular student. Coming from a small city like Chandigarh to a huge city like Mumbai and adjusting in Tinsel town was a tough task. Chandigarh is a very guarded city, which has its own discipline. The work schedule starts at a certain time and ends at a definite time. Mumbai is grand and quite big. The journey has been and still is very interesting for me - too many twists and turns, share of disappointments and excitements."

Competition kills Another challenge for Yami is the competition she has to face with her contemporary actresses. "Honestly, har koi Bollywood mein aaj ke time pe wakaye bahut achha hai. I will not lie by saying that I am only competing with myself in Bollywood. Indeed, there is tough competition in Bollywood today. But I don't devote my mind to such thoughts because that takes away a lot of my time. I am aware of what is happening around me. I am aware of the competition, but at the end of the day, even I have something in me, and most importantly, I too have the passion just like my contemporaries," she says.

No more TV Yami, who became a popular face on television with her serial Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kam, has no plans of returning to the small screen. "Ads are the best medium to be visible on TV," laughs Yami, as she adds, "Apart from ads, I don't think television is happening for me. Mere paas ekdum time nahi hai for television. I am only focussing on films."

Neerraj Pathak shoots for 'Bhaiyyaji Superhit' in Udaipur

It was in Udaipur that he began dreaming of becoming a filmmaker. And now, Neerraj Pathak's dreams have come true as he shoots his new film 'Bhaiyyaji Superhit' with his favourite hero Sunny Deol in the city where he was born and brought up. The director had always wanted to return to his hometown to shoot a film.

Neerraj has some fond memories of his childhood spent there, and so he wanted his camera to capture some unexplored charm of his city. "I was born and brought up in Udaipur, and it was there that the dream of becoming a filmmaker took shape. So it was always a dream to shoot in my own city with my own people. Thankfully with this film, I got a chance to capture the beauty of the places I grew up playing with my friends," shares Neerraj. The shooting schedule is for 45 days and he has been shooting in places like Devigarh Palace and Sajjangarh. The film also stars Arshad Warsi, Preity Zinta and Ameesha Patel.

In July, Pooja Bhatt was in Udaipur to shoot for her film Bad with Richa Chadda and Randeep Hooda. Her experience turned out to be bad, as she complained of ill-treatment by a police official and later some activists protested against her shoot. Neerraj, being a localite, had no such problem; in fact he is thankful to the local administration for their cooperation and support. He adds, "If we go by the rules and regulations, nothing seems to come our way. We need to adjust according to the norms. It's been almost 20 days that we have been shooting in the city and nearby areas and we haven't faced any problems yet. The local administration and police department have been continuously supporting us in every possible way. In fact we had a shoot on Ganesh Chaturthi, and owing to security reasons, the collector and other officials especially asked us to not shoot on that particular day. The security of my artistes is my prime concern, so we cancelled our shoot and resumed the next day."

Differences between Kalki and Anurag irreconcilable?

For a while now, there have been reports of marital discord between filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and his actress wife Kalki Koechlin. But recently, whispers of the differences between this celebrity couple becoming irreconcilable have compounded.

And those close to both these talented people say that there allegedly is trouble in their paradise. A friend of Anurag's thought it was strange that he got a cold shoulder from the filmmaker's second wife, when he walked up to say hello to her backstage during the interval of one of her plays.

The actor assumed that the treatment meted out to him by the otherwise effusive and warm Kalki was more because he was closer to Anurag than to her. He was concerned that perhaps the couple was see-sawing in their relationship and that they had chosen different sets of friends for each other, rather than maintaining common ones.

Unit sources who saw Kalki in the US, where she was shooting for Saif Ali Khan's home production, also mentioned that the actress seemed to be going through a personal low.

While her work ethic during the long outdoor spell was perfect, she went into a shell post pack up. Of course, she made brave attempts to bond with Saif and Kareena Kapoor, who were there with her for a bit. And, perhaps, those were the only moments when she seemed to light up.

Anurag and Kalki married on April 30, 2011. Photographs of the glowing bride are afresh in the minds of their friends and there are valiant efforts still being made by their close circle to keep them together. We messaged both Kalki and Anurag to ask them if there was trouble brewing in their marriage. However, one didn't hear from either of them till the time of going to press.

TV’s bearded hotties

When it comes to men sporting facial fuzz, it definitely makes them hotter than ever in most cases. But when it comes to the small screen, most actors sport the beard to add to the rustic look or the rugged look. Here's a dekko at tube's latest actors, who are sporting facial hair:

Avinash Sachdev Shlok, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon Ek Baar Phir As the cold-hearted, mean biz tycoon, Avinash does quite the job of holding his single expression in place. But with a dark facial fuzz, moustache and a constant stern look on his face, Avinash does complete justice to his character.

Vikrant Massey Ayan, Qubool Hai Juggling a parallel lead role in a daily soap and the role of a presenter in a youth show, Vikrant does an easy job of switching between roles with an unkempt look. With a trimmed beard and messy hair, Vikrant carries the look with ease.

Ayaz Ahmed Raghu, Do Dil...Ek Jaan Another Roadies boy has now bagged his very first lead role on entetainment TV. Ayaz, plays a small time ruffian in the romantic story Do Dil...Ek Jaan. As an orphaned gangster trying to make his livings, Ayaz's beard fits his character very well and gives him that rough look.

Vibhav Roy Nikhil, Gustakh Dil He is rich and sophisticated, and sports a designer stubble. Nikhil, who has been a rich brat until recently, is now the epitome of kind husband to the rustic Lajjo. It's another matter that Nikhil switches from a clean shaved look to a stubble with ease.

Arhaan Behl Raghu, Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se He is not unfamiliar with playing a rustic character after playing a similar role in his last show Pratigya. Now as a small town guy Raghu and the household help of a billionaire, Arhaan again sports a light facial fuzz, adding to his bechara looks.

Rahul Sharma Akash, Ek Ghar Banaunga Yet another rustic character on the Hindi soap block, the energetic Akash sports a light beard and moustache. Throw in colourful kurta-pajamas, monotone waist-coats and a woolen stole around his neck and Rahul is ready in his rustic avatar.

Viraf Pheroz Patel Mrityunjay, Ek Boond Ishq As a model, he is smart and suave. But when it comes to his daily soap outings, Viraf is keen to experiment with his looks. Playing the guy who spent a long time in jail, Viraf sports long hair and a beard as well. All the facial fuzz makes him more appealing.

Shaleen Malhotra Arjun, Har Yug Me Aayega Ek Arjun He is a cop to look out for, not only for his intelligence and strength but also for his style. As the tough cop Arjun, Roadies contestant Shaleen Malhotra also sports a neat trim. His light beard only adds to his macho, rugged looks.

Attarintiki Daredi Telugu movie review highlights

Pawan Kalyan's forthcoming film Attarintiki Daredi is finally seeing the light. The Trivikram's directorial is set to be a family drama and let's quickly cut across to the highlights of the movie review

Attarintiki Daredi Telugu movie review highlights

Pawan Kalyan (as Gautham Nanda) looks ubercool and stylish. He scorches the screen with his performance, outlook, body language and his trademark antics.

Pawan Kalyan has shown it again how an actor can own and carry it on when the right character is offered. His dialogues, which spring straight from the Telugu heartland, are street-smart and colloquial. His performance during the emotional scenes are just about brilliant

Trivikram Srinivas, who is known for his candy floss humour quotient, perfectly blended Pawan Kalyan's mannerism and attitude to the character.

His direction is commendable - he maximises his star cast whilst, maintaining balance and keeps the film packed.

The dialogues penned by Trivikram, especially those written for Pawan Kalyan, are terrific and pack a punch

Samantha as Sashi and Praneetha as Prameela are good

Nadiya perfectly fits in the role of aunt. Perhaps one just gets the feeling that no one else could have done such a character other than her

There are several one-liners that had fans erupt in joys

Prasad Murella's cinematography captures the gloss and grandeur of Spain and Pollachi to the minutest.

Devi Sri Prasad's music and background score is a huge asset to the film

'Attatintiki Daredi' stands on three pillars - Pawan's star power and Trivikram's dialogues and cool music. The film unleashes the powerstar in full fury and flair

Ranbir Kapoor beats SRK's record

Ranbir Kapoor had unabashedly announced his plans to become the "number one" in Bollywood during a recent interview with this paper and he seems intent on the feat as he has now broken a record held previously by Shah Rukh Khan.

SRK had gone out of his way to ensure that his last release, 'Chennai Express', had the biggest release ever for a Hindi film with 3500 screens in India and 700 plus screens abroad. His efforts also led to allegations of foul play from Ekta Kapoor's camp after their production 'Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara' got a limited release on day one because of the SRK starrer's blitzkrieg.

But now Ranbir has beaten the actor in the numbers game with 'Besharam', distributed by Reliance Entertainment, which will be released in atleast 3600 screens in India, making it the biggest release in Hindi film history till date.

When contacted, Utpal Acharya, Distribution Head of Reliance Entertainment, confirmed the news. "Yes, 'Besharam' will be the largest release till date, both in India and abroad. I am looking at 3600 plus screens. I had planned for 4000 screens but Pawan Kalyan's Telugu film 'Attarintiki Daredi' which releases today has a got a phenomenal response in advance booking. That takes away some screens which I had planned in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala," he said.

And justifying his decision, Acharya told TOI, "I am very confident of 'Besharam', it is a full family commercial entertainer and more the screens, more the revenue." The race to rope in the most number of screens has become a favourite tactic of the industry as the larger the number of theatres showing a film, the bigger the first day collection.

While some trade insiders say that a larger release does not necessarily translate into higher revenue in totality, a leading distributor (on request of anonymity) told us, "You need to have a film like 'Chennai Express' or 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', which sustains fabulously, to get the numbers. Else it just amounts to higher collections on only day one and this is simply because the film is more in your face. If 'Besharam' is accepted well, yes, then it would definitely make sense to release in so many screens. And yes, even 100-150 more screens can make a difference."

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, "A wide release can go well with a big film like 'Besharam'. Post 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', Ranbir has become a big craze. Plus, you have the Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap holding the reins."Acharya offers another justification of the numbers game saying, "When the film releases at a large number of theatres, the audience can pick and choose where they want to see it, an expensive one or a cheaper option. So, more the screens, lesser the piracy."

I love female adulation: Karan Tacker

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 26 September 2013 | 21.44

Television actor Karan Tacker in a freewheeling chat with TOI

'Synthetic Punjabi', this is exactly how Karan Tacker likes to describe himself. He loves to binge like a Punjabi, but when it comes to speaking the language, he can hardly speak few lines. "But I love to gorge on food. Chaats are my favorite. I know Ahmedabad is a hub for foodies and this time around I am surely going to sample as much as food I can" says Karan who was in Ahmedabad as a celebrity judge for the finale of Clean & ClearTM Ahmedabad Times Fresh Face 2013. And as soon as we told him about Ahmedabad's most popular seven flavoured pani puri, we noticed a distinct twinkle in his eyes and he promptly insisted on tasting them before.

This was Karan's second trip to Ahmedabad and he claimed that he thoroughly enjoyed his stay. "Unlike Mumbai, the roads here are clean and wide. And traffic is just not a problem here. There are special characteristics about small cities and you get to experience them only once you move out of the metros like Mumbai," he says.

Born in Delhi and brought up in Mumbai, Karan recently wrapped up his show Ek Hazaron Mein Mere Behena Hai. As he walked on the streets, starstruck fans rushed to get autographs and quickly taking out their smartphones to snap his pictures. "Adulation is an added advantage of our profession. I am a shy guy, but I love all the attention I get from female fans," he smiles.

On a 'break' from daily television shows, Karan says that a daily soap requires almost 18 hours in a day and he is not ready to give so much time to another daily soap just yet. "I have been working non-stop for four and a half years — it might not be a very long time, but I want spend some time with my family and close friends for the moment. I am keen on doing a Bollywood film soon," says Karan who would love to play the characters of Sunil Dutt from Mother India, Balraj Sahni from Waqt and Dilip Kumar from Devdas. "I know I can't create the same magic they did on screen, but I would love to play strong characters and do whatever little justice I can to these characters."

Talking about reality shows, Karan says that today as lot of money, ideas and concepts are invested in them. "I am glad this format has clicked well with the audiences. I won't mind doing reality shows, but Bigg Boss is a big no-no for me. I am offered that show every year and I just keep saying no. I can't stay locked in a particular house with strangers," says Karan.

This tall and good looking guy unwinds his day by listening to music. "I need a hot cup of tea and music when I get up in the morning. I like to listen to different genres of music depending on my mood, but the volume always needs to be high. Music makes me feel energetic and fresh. Apart from English music, Shahid Kapoor's Tu Mere Agal Bagal is my latest favourite Hindi number," he shares.

Coming to his personal life, the last time we interviewed him, he was dating a girl who doesn't belong to the entertainment industry, but now he claims he's single. "We broke up. I am single at the moment. As far as marriage is concerned I don't know when I will because today the way people are getting divorced is not a joke. I don't think Gen Zn is even going to get married!" he says.

A woman is not an object: Anup Soni

After 'Crime Patrol' aired an episode on the Nirbhaya gang-rape case recently, the show's host Anup Soni talks about the need to highlight such cases on television and the impact it has on the audience. The idea, he says, is to spread awareness about the laws, and to sensitize people and the police about the right way to deal with women and issues pertaining to them.

On taking up real cases with a message
We choose a case where we want to tell something to people and spread awareness about it. We don't pick a case saying, "Oh my God, this is an interesting case. The audience would be interested in knowing about it."

A few days back, we took a case where a priest donated his kidney to a stranger. Now, if you see, there's nothing sensational about the case. People complained saying, "Your show's a crime show and you have shown a story where there's no crime."

Jab hum buri cheez ko dekh ke yeh seekhte hain ki bura kaam nahi karna chahiye, to kya hum acche kaam to dekh ke yeh nahi seekh sakte, ki humein bhi accha kaam karna chahiye. If you remember, we had called the real priest and the recipient of the kidney on the show. With Crime Patrol, we also try to make people aware about certain laws. Do you know that there is no such thing as jurisdiction now? Agar kisi ladki ke saath koi haadsa hua hai, woh ABCD area mein hua ho, aur aap GH area mein jaake usse register karayenge, then the police have to register an FIR. Later the police can transfer the case to the concerned area. Nobody can say, "This doesn't come under my jurisdiction." Like Asaram Bapu's case, the incident happened somewhere else and it was registered somewhere else.

On the Nirbhaya case
The Nirbhaya case shook the nation's consciousness. Aap sochiye, kya Nirbhaya case se pehle aur rape cases nahi huye hain, lekin logon ka patience kha-tam ho gaya tha. Unhe lagne laga tha ki yeh toh mazaak hai yaar, ki Dilli jaise shehar mein raat ko 9 baje aap itna brutal crime kar sakte hain. People got affected by the brutality of the crime and came out on to the streets to demand justice for Nirbhaya.

On the reaction to the verdict
I would not like to pass a statement like, "Yeh bahut accha hua ki unhe death sentence mila". But in a case like this, many things need to be considered. If you talk about it in legal terms, the girl died. So that makes the crime even bigger. Main yeh nahi kehna chah raha hoon ki aapne death sentence de diya to aap logon ko dara denge lekin kahin na kahin yeh baat ek insaan ke dimaag mein jaana bahut zaruri hai ki mujhe sazaa hogi agar main galat kaam karunga. A criminal should be scared of the consequences of a crime.

On the male mentality
I want to write a book on, "It's all about mentality". You must have read a whole lot of books on self-confidence and attitude. Attitude comes with mentality. I am seriously thinking about writing a book that talks about how your mentality influences the way you do things. It's not about a city — Mumbai safe hai, unsafe hai, ya Dilli safe hai, ya Baroda safe hai. It's all about people and their thinking process. Mothers should teach their sons how it is to be a woman. We have quoted a line from a famous American women's rights activist on the show, "Betiyon ko toh logon ne beton ki tarah bada karne ka sochna shuru kar diya hai par bahut kam log hai jo beton ko betiyon ki tarah bada karne ka sochte hain." Point yeh hai ki aapke beton ko pata hona chahiye ki ek aurat hona kya hota hai. It is essential to make people sensitive towards women. Boys should be taught that a woman is not a material or an object.

On police sensitization
It is very easy to blame the police or administration. Everyone has a role to play. Administration has a role to play. Police has a role to play. I think everybody should play their roles honestly. Ab jaise police ka jahaan tak sawaal his, woh log apna kaam karte hain, bahut mehnat karte hain. I think as far as handling rape cases is concerned, police waalon ko training dena zaruri hai. Every police officer has a certain perspective which has been shaped by his upbringing. Jab ek policewaale ke paas ek ladki jaati hai aur kehti hai ki mera rape ho gaya, main wahaan pub mein gayi thi, there are chances that a police officer might think, "You invited it upon yourself because you went to the pub. It's your fault." I think we need to make police personnel sensitive towards these kinds of cases.

After this case, the Delhi Police has introduced sensitization sessions. If police officers are provided training on how to interact with victims of such cases, I think the credibility and confidence of police will improve. But after the Nirbhaya case, some changes have been observed in Delhi Police's functioning. It will take time but things could improve.

Service Tax Department officials visit Govinda's home

The recent weeks have seen a number of Bollywood folks being called on by the Service Tax Department.

The latest to join the list is Govinda, whose Juhu home was visited by the officials on Tuesday afternoon. The actor was shooting for the Thuppakki remake with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha at a five-star hotel in Juhu, when he got a call informing him of their visit. He apparently rushed home to sort out the issue and returned to the shoot only after an hour or so.

When contacted, Sameer Wankhede, Deputy Commissioner, Anti-Evasion, Service Tax Department, confirmed the news. "We have a list of people registered with the department. And while checking documents, we found that Mr Govinda had a liability of 11 lakh. That's why we visited his home," he said, adding that service tax has been made applicable in Bollywood since 2012.

Sources tell us that initially, the actor had no liability as he wasn't doing any films in the interim. But after he signed on a couple of projects, he had to pay the appropriate tax.

According to Wankhede, Govinda was to clear his dues yesterday.

The Rann of Kutch is emerging as the favourite with filmmakers

Gujarat surely seems to be the hot destination for Bollywood these days. With movies like D-day, Kai Po Che, Grand Masti and many more recently been shot in the state, Gujarat is fast becoming current flavor for B-Town.

But even more so, it's the serene yet captivating landscape of the Rann of Kutch that has caught the fancy of filmmakers in the recent times. And with as many as four movies like Ramleela, R Rajkumar, Gori Tere Pyar Mein and The Good Road splashing the white beauty on the big screen. And with The Good Road being selected as the official entry into the Oscars, Kutch now seems to be going international.

Just as Big B became the brand ambassador for Gujarat tourism, the state's popularity increased manifold, and now with so many films showing the beautiful landscape on the big screen, its only going get bigger and better.

The Good Road
This controversy stricken film which is the official entry to the Oscars from India this year, The Good Road has taken Gujarati film industry directly to the international platform. There might be protests against the film accusing it of showing the state in bad light, The Good Road has brought Kutch a lot of attention from many a corners of the country.

Rambo Rajkumar
Prabhudheva sure knows the trick to stay put in the 100 crore club. Whatever he has touched has turned to gold. And this time, as he ventures inside the Rann, we are hoping he will turn the white sands into a golden cinematic run at the BO. And with the first time pair of Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha, (the latter is Prabhu's lucky charm), it sure looks interesting.

Ram Leela
SLB ( Sanjay Leela Bhansali) seems to have taken the baton in his hands to make Gujarat a hot spot for tourists. His Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam brought Gujarat and its culture on a national canvas, and now he is ready to recreate the magic with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. This cinematographic genius is sure to put a breathtaking view on his canvas.

Gori Tere Pyar Mein
A contemporary love story also shot in a Kutchi village. Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor created magic on screen in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, and they are back again with another heartwarming love story. While the boy chases the girl into a village, the film promises to put Kutch in Bollywood's map firmly.

Kutch magic Refugee: Probably the first ever film to bring the Rann of Kutch into focus Dookudu: Not just Bollywood, even the southern superstars visited the Rann to capture the beauty
Magadheera: Ram Charan Tej's Magadheera was a huge BO success that took Kutch across southern India
Lagaan: Yet another internationally acclaimed film this one took the Rann across international borders

Tiger Shroff gets a new look

Tiger Shroff was recently spotted at a photo shoot sporting a well-groomed, suave look with a short crop.

While Jackie Shroff's son seems to be impressing people with his physique, charm and looks, it apparently wasn't easy to convince him to cut his hair short.

Sabbir Khan, who is directing Tiger's debut film Heropanti, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, tells us that it was quite a task to get the youngster to cut his hair every two months (a few inches at a time), as he is very fond of his tresses. In fact, after every cut, they did a photo-shoot in different costumes to convince Tiger that the short hair really suited him. "It was a challenge to make him go short, but he finally realised that it makes him look better groomed," says Khan.

I don’t regret doing any of my films: Randeep Hooda

Randeep Hooda talks about his experience of shooting in the interiors of Madhya Pradesh and his penchant for dark roles

The actor who hails from Rohtak in Haryana, confides that he's a typical jatt boy, who takes more pleasure in strolling around farms than in hitting a plush nightclub.

"I have a farmer's instincts within me. So, while we were shooting for a film in Madhya Pradesh sometime back, I used to explore the lush green land during my free time," Randeep says, adding, "And using my farmer's instinct, I noticed that the quality of soil in MP is also very good!"

Prod him further on the details of the film he was shooting here, and he replies, "It's too early to disclose anything. There's quite some time before it releases."

And in which parts of MP was the film shot? "We have had an extensive shooting schedule in the interiors of MP. We also had a brief stay in Bhopal. And I must say, I found the city mesmerising. It has a quaint charm, which lures you to come back again and again," he gushes.

He also talks about his recent stay in Indore. "This is my first visit to Indore. I had heard a lot about the city's cuisine, including daal-bafla and poha-jalebi. I'll make sure that I taste them all before leaving."

Talking about people perceiving him as a serious actor because of his intense roles, Randeep says, "I have done light films like Love Khichdi and Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye. In Heroine, I had played a lovelorn guy. But it's sad that I have been identified as an actor who only opts for dark roles."

The actor adds that his intense image has helped him carve a niche for himself in Bollywood. "I have realized that intensity is my unique point. I don't have to attempt it; it's innate. So, when every actor is seeking his individuality, I guess, I have already found mine," he asserts.

"During my theatre days, I was more comfortable doing comedy. It's such an irony. I have always played a buffoon on stage, and yet I don't have any comic role to my credit," he rues.

Randeep, whose initial few projects bombed at the box office, says he doesn't regret doing those films. "I don't regret doing any of my films. All of them have been great learning experiences and they have contributed to making me what I am today," he asserts, adding, "Over the years, I have realized that there's more to a film's fate than just good acting and a solid script. It needs to be marketed well. It's the package that sells - the songs, action, actors, etc. I didn't do such films earlier. It was only after Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai that I realized that I can easily be a part of a big-budget flick. Now, for me, commercial success is more important."

India’s official Oscar entry in the middle of controversy

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 25 September 2013 | 21.44

Seems like the road ahead for India's Oscar entry is ridden with controversies. While critical twitteratis took to express their concern over the movie's selection in virtual space despite Chief Minister Narendra Modi congratulating 'The Good Road' in a mircoblogging site, the Gujarati film fraternity believes something has gone wrong in portrayal of Gujarat in the film.

In a bid to mark a protest many from the industry joined others near the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad yesterday. Even as the contemporary filmmakers and young directors are tacitly supporting The Good Road's Oscar entry, others feel the film is a 'conspiracy to show Gujarat, especially Kutch in a poor light'.

Ashish Kakkad, Director: I don't see any logic behind these protests. Who are they trying to please?

Deepak Antani, Director: The Good Road is a work of fiction, but the way it portrays certain aspects in a realistic manner can lead anyone watching the movie (made by a non Gujarati) to believe that these things happen in Gujarat, especially girl child prostitution. This movie shows Gujarat in a poor light.
Abhilash Ghoda, Entertainer : We are concerned that the film portrays child prostitution and shows Gujarat in a poor light depicting it a place where such things are rampant. The decision came at a time when the polls are around the corner in 2014 - there is a conspiracy against Gujarat to mar its image.

Sandeep Patel, Director: We are not protesting against a particular filmmaker. It's the content that we are opposing to. If you portray something that's true, when such a film goes to a world arena, many questions on Gujarat which are untrue would surface. We will appreciate if they show the truth.

Abhishek Jain, Director: I am a non Gujarati. So why weren't there any protests on Kevi Rite Jaish which had non Gujarati actors like Tom Alter and Rakesh Bedi? Ab angoor khatte hone lage when the film is getting recognition? They didn't make it an issue when it won a national award. Why are they doing it now?

Vikram Dodiya, Director: This is a fictional story. I have seen the film in bits and pieces. There are other important issues like the subsidy on Gujarati films which need to be looked at seriously. So far as the content of The Good Road, is concerned, I have no comment.

Rajkumar Hirani directs Sanjay Dutt inside the jail

Together, they created one of Hindi cinema's most enduring characters in Munnabhai. On Tuesday, ace director Raju Hirani was directing one of his favourite actors yet again--but under rather unusual circumstances.

At the behest of Yerwada jail superintendent, Yogesh Desai, Hirani was asked to supervise the play 'Teemiratun...Tejakade' (From darkness to light) to be performed by 20 jail inmates at Bal Gandharva Auditorium on September 26. The star of the bilingual play is one Hirani is all too familiar with.

Sanjay Dutt, serving a jail term after his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai blasts under the Arms Act, may have lost a lot of weight--prompting the director to remark that he was looking fitter than he has been in his recent screen outings—but has clearly not lost any of his star appeal going by his entry on the makeshift proscenium within the jail. Dutt performs a one-act skit within the play, and in keeping with his status as a Bollywood star, two dance numbers as well.

Hirani who shares a deep friendship with Dutt flew in from Delhi where he is scheduled to shoot 'P.K.' with Aamir Khan (Dutt too shot for the film before his arrest). Sources inside the jail told this newspaper that jail authorities were keen to get the play fine-tuned by a top-notch director and approached Dutt for suggestions. Even though he gave Hirani's name, the star, all unshaven and broody, was surprised to see his old friend on Tuesday and became teary-eyed as Raju got in the director's chair. A quick word with all the actors, many of whom are serving life sentence, Hirani got down to brasstacks, suggesting a few changes in the staging of the play that deals with alcoholism and yes, even Gandhism.

In fact, the song from Lage Raho, their second Munnabhai film, Bande mein tha dum, has also been incorporated in the play directed by Rahul Solapurkar. For a good part of the next two hours, Hirani worked with the actors, often going up on the stage to correct postures and body language.

After a strenuous rehearsal, it was time for costume trials. By late evening Hirani headed out of the jail to catch a flight to Delhi. All in a day's work.

War Chhod Na Yaar: Debut director attempts India’s first war comedy

Working with a debut director on a war comedy for the first time in Bollywood could've spelt risk for many actors. But for Jaaved Jaaferi, Sharman Joshi and Soha Ali Khan — the cast of War Chhod Na Yaar — director Faraz Haider's script was a winner from day one.

"Even though Faraz has worked with Dibakar Banerjee, this is his first directorial outing. Of course, there were apprehensions, but the script convinced us that this story must be taken to the audience," says Soha, who plays a journalist in the film.

The narrative moves from her perspective as she goes to the Indo-Pak border to report a story. From there, it takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the love-hate relationship between the two countries that share more than just boundaries, food, Bollywood and a penchant for corruption. Sharman plays an Indian Army officer in the film, while Jaaved plays a Pakistani one.

Says Sharman, "We want people to think about their cliched perception of the Indo-Pak relationship. Playing an officer was incredible. Once you don the uniform, you truly begin to understand what they experience." Adds Jaaved, "I've known Faraz for a few years, so expectations were high from him. But his script was good."

Talking about the story, Faraz says, "The war with Pakistan is an extremely sensitive as well as emotional issue. That's why it was important to handle it well as a comedy. It took me six months to pen it."

War Chhod Na Yaar, produced by AOPL Entertainment Pvt Ltd, releases October 11.

Punctuality. I hate people who do not value time. Over the years, it has become a habit to be on time. This surprises a lot of people here, as the industry is not really known for its punctuality.

One habit of yours that you want to get rid of.
I'm extremely finicky about cleanliness. When I go to my friends' house, I end up cleaning their wardrobes. It's such an unnecessary stress to worry about other people's mess!

Have you ever been attracted to a woman?
At least not yet! (laughs). But I have a lot of gay friends and I whole-heartedly support the LGBT community. It stands for modernisation. It's a beautiful sign of freedom and open-mindedness.

Do you believe in the institution of marriage?
I have my doubts. We live in times where the divorce rates are higher than marriage rates (laughs). So, to an extent, it challenges your notions of a happily-ever-after, and puts you off the entire idea. My parents have been married for over 30 years now, and I honestly would like mine to be similar. But, at the same time, I think in today's time, it is a long shot. However, marriage or no marriage, I am definitely having babies!

While the media is going frantic about Aamir-Anushka's "longest kiss" in Rajkumar Hirani' 'P.K.', the pretty actress denies it.

At a promotional event, Anushka rubbished reports that she will be locking lips with her P.K. co-star Aamir. She said that these are just rumours and the movie will have many more things to watch but not this so-called kiss.

Deepika Padukone turns bold, answers all of it

Deepika Padukone doesn't shy away from tricky media questions.

Hit after hit along with top notch performance in every single release is undoubtedly making Deepika Padukone confident so much so that tackling the media tactfully comes easy to her these days. The other day at the trailer launch of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Ramleela' when the organizers decided to wrap up the event after the actors had fielded just few questions, Deepika took charge and decided to continue the proceeding with few more questions.

She was all game for being 'attacked' by the barrage of questions. Queries on her choice of films, tricky questions on working with a specific co-star, or link ups and break ups, intimate scenes between her and Ranveer, the actress was discovered to have great presence of mind in tackling all of them leaving all perplexed as well as stunned and giving rest to all the doubts people had in their minds.

Unlike some of her contemporaries who like to play safe by taking a diplomatic stand, Deepika is definitely coming across as bold and smart with her words. One also saw the dimpled actress speak her mind when she was promoting her film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with her ex-lover Ranbir. She didn't mince words even once while talking about their relationship and how she came to terms with it. Atta girl!

Karan Johar shocked over 'The Lunchbox' failure

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who has presented " The Lunchbox", is shocked that the movie, which had "every factor working in its favour", was not chosen as India's representative to compete for the best foreign film category at the Oscars.

"Really shocked and dissapointed...'The Lunchbox' had every factor working in its favour. We may have just lost our golden chance... SAD," Karan posted on Twitter.

His tweet came in soon after it was announced Saturday evening that National Award winning Gujarati film " The Good Road" has been shortlisted as India's entry for the best foreign film category at the Academy Awards in 2014.

"The Lunchbox" is a simple understated love story about two strangers who exchange notes about life via a lunchbox. The movie was one of the strongest contenders, admitted filmmaker Goutam Ghose, who chaired the 16-member committee formed by the Film Federation of India to choose an appropriate movie.

"It was a unanimous decision to go with 'The Good Road'," he said.

Earlier Saturday, acclaimed writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar had shared on Twitter that "The Lunchbox" is "one of the finest films Indian has ever produced".

"If sent, undoubtedly it will bring an Oscar for the country," he had posted.

The film's producer Anurag Kashyap has also expressed disappointment with the decision to oust the movie out of the Oscar race.

Starring Irrfan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Nimrat Kaur, the film is directed by debutant Ritesh Batra. It released Friday.

Won’t do a cameo in SRK, Salman film: Veena Malik

Pakistani actress Veena Malik doesn't like to mince her words when it comes to speaking her mind.

The glamorous actress says that she doesn't want to do a cameo in Shah Rukh or Salman's film just for the sake of big names. "Acting is a passion for me and frankly speaking, I'm very greedy about my role's length and significance. You will also observe that I've been given prominence on my films' posters because my producers believe in me and my fans love to watch me, not others. For me, a big budget movie with some shinning stars doesn't matter, if I've nothing important to do in it."

However she says that she can think of doing an item number in Shah Rukh, Salman or Aamir's film. "Only if that song is helmed as the highlight of the film. Of course, it's a dream come true for any actress to share screen space with these legends," adds Veena.

Veena started her career in Bollywood after the reality show Bigg Boss. She later featured in films Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai, Zindagi 50-50 and Kannada film Dirty Picture: Silk Sakkath Maga, which generated good business at the box-office.

She is now optimistic about the success of her next film Super Model. For the role, she even lost weight and followed a strict diet. "It was very tough to go on a diet which was mainly boiled food without sugar and oil. I love drinking tea a lot but for the role, I left everything and was really surprised to see the results. You will find a new Veena in the film. I'm happy my hard work bore fruition," says Veena smilingly.

Due to her bold image and care-a-damn attitude, Veena is often compared to sultry actresses like Sherlyn Chopra, Rakhi Sawant, Poonam Pandey and Sunny Leone but she defends herself saying, "I don't know what similarities people find while comparing me with them. It's utterly ridiculous as I'm not reliant on controversies nor do I go on a clothes shedding spree to show my presence. My upbringing is not like them and even my achievements are bigger than theirs."

The actress is happy the way her career is shaping now. "Even in Pakistan people appreciate my efforts now and more and more girls want to come to India to try their luck in acting."

After her link up with co-star Ashmit Patel, she was recently linked to Dubai's reputed businessman Shaikh Umar Farukh Zahoor but according to Veena, it's was a story cooked up by gossip mongers. "I met Shaikh sahib during a family event in Dubai. He is very religious and a respected person. My family knows him and actually it was our first meeting. On the request of the hotel staff, we clicked a few pictures together which were later published in the media and they termed it as my 'new affair'. I have so many fans the world over who request me to click pictures with them but that doesn't mean that I have any affair with them. It's a part of show business so I'm used to it now."

Veena's 'Super Model' is going to release on 27th September.

Nadeem-Shravan back in action

The musician duo are all set for a second stint in the industry.

They were the golden boys of the Bollywood music scene during the 90s but the Nadeem-Shravan twosome has been missing in action for a long time now. Nadeem Saifi is now based in London after being accused in the Gulshan Kumar murder case and though he and Shravan Rathod continued to collaborate on films like 'Raaz', 'Kasoor' and 'Dhadkan' despite the long distances, they finally called it quits in 2005.

The music created by them for films like 'Aashiqui', 'Saajan' and 'Phool Aur Kante' still remains popular and now the duo is reuniting for Guddu Dhanoa's next 'Deewana'. Interestingly this is the same team that gave us the Shah Rukh Khan, Divya Bharati starrer of the same name in the 90's.

The return is in full swing as the Bhatts too have offered them their next project. It all began when Shravan approached Dhanoa and told the filmmaker that he wants to work with Nadeem for 'Deewana' again as they had created the music for the original 1992 hit. Dhanoa then contacted Nadeem and the rest followed.

"We are in advanced talks with Nadeem and Shravan. They have consented in principle. We are working out the modalities. I am perfectly happy if Nadeem works from Dubai or London or wherever he is. They really know what melody is all about," Dhanoa told TOI.

Talking to us from Dubai, Nadeem confirmed the development, "We did a lot of work even after my case but I was very hurt because we didn't get awards for those very popular numbers, except just one. There is a child in every artiste who wants recognition, so I decided to quit."

"I want to make music again, those lilting tunes which signify love. Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt are family, ditto for Dhanoa. So I had to say yes to them.I may do one of the projects solo," he added.

Mukesh Bhatt too confirmed their collaboration with the musicians, "We want to recreate that era with them again. They will be working on one of our forthcoming films in future."

Anurag Kashyap apologises for Dilip Kumar tweet

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has apologised for posting an incorrect tweet about legendary actor Dilip Kumar.

The "Gangs of Wasseypur" helmer had earlier taken to Twitter to condole the death of Kumar, 90.

But he was quick to correct his mistake, which he attributed to text messages he received and deleted the tweet.

"Apologies for the Dilip Saab tweet... I panicked because of three back to back messages, he is fine and the news is not true," Kashyap posted.

Kumar's wife Saira Banu said that the actor is on his road to recovery but needs lot of rest.

"He has to overcome the problem and it will take some time. But he is recovering. This morning he got up and had tea. He needs to rest. I thank all the fans and well wishers for their prayers and request them to continue with it," Saira Banu said.

Hrithik-Suzanne separation? untrue says Farah

Rumours are afloat in the media that Hrithik Roshan and his wife Suzzane Roshan are allegedly heading for a divorce, according to The Indian Express. However Suzzane's sister Farah Khan Ali tweets that such stories are not to be believed.

The Indian Express story, although difficult to believe, claims that there are rumours of a rift between Hrithik and wife Suzanne. However Suzzane's sister Farah Khan Ali tweeted some time back "Celebrities will always be food for gossip. Don't believe everything you read. Its a pity the media lives off personal lives. Get a life!"

Further she tweeted the Miss Malini story ('It's true, Hrithik & Sussanne Roshan Are Getting Separated'), from where the rumour might have perhaps originated, claiming that it is NOT TRUE.

Going by Farah's vehement denial, maybe the grapevine needs to take a chill pill, and leave the couple alone.

Suzzane, daughter of Sanjay Khan and Zarine Khan, tied the knot with Hrithik in 2000. Both Hrithik and Suzzane knew each other for a long time; even before he became a star. Hrithik and Suzzane have two sons Hrehaan and Hridhaan.

Movie Review: Phata Poster Nikhla Hero

Story: In his tryst to be a hero, Vishwas Rao ends up becoming a fake filmi cop. But fate offers him funnier choices.

Review: Star-struck (rather Salman-struck) small-towner, Vishwas (Shahid) lands in Mumbai with two sapnas. First, his own starry dreams (ruled by Rajnikanths and Khans) of being a Bollywood superstar. Second, his high-on-melodrama maa's (Padmini) long cherished dream - "mera beta police afsar banega". But fate takes a hilarious twist when he's mistaken for a good cop (Thank Heavens, he has Chulbul Pandey for inspiration. With tighties, googles, dabanggisms, and his own sizzling 'Munni'). He falls in love with the over-zealous Kajal (Ileana), a social worker with many chaotic-causes. Soon he's caught in chor-police crossfire between the dreadfully funny gangster Gundappa Das (Saurabh Shukla) and the asli good cop (Darshan Jariwala) - both put up rip-roaring acts. In a comedy of errors and events, through heartbreak and hilarity, emotion and eccentricity, Vishwas flips between fake herogiri and asli heroism.

Shahid is 'phaadu', really! Whether he's doing the dhating naach (outstanding); playing rowdy Romeo, a goofy goon, or maa ka laadla; he's back in form and packs in all with terrific chutzpah and comic flair. He makes the most of every 'emoticon' there is and leaves you 'ROTFL'. This one belongs to Kapoor and he revels in it.

Ileana is good at emotions, but not so tuned into comedy yet. Padmini, the melancholic maa with tons of mascara plays the part with ease, though we wish she induced more laughs over tear-jerking 'maa-kasam' dialogues. Sanjay Mishra, as Vishwas' Bollywood advisor is uproariously funny.

Santoshi shows flashes of his previous 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani', odes to his own classics ('Andaz Apna Apna', 'Ghayal') and of course the ultimate fan-boy moment when Vishwas meets his screen idol Salman (the asli hero!). The first half offers loads of cackles, chuckles, witticisms and spoofy scenes. Post-interval the comedy collapses for a bit with forced OTT drama, khaali-peeli action, and too many songs breaks, but makes a comeback with delightfully funny moments.

This one's worth it for the 'howlarity' of it all. And Shahid in his element. 'Vishwas' nahin hota? ...Go watch! (LOL! Maa Kasam, it's just the comedy hangover!)

Note: You may not like this film if you don't have a taste for silly humour & mindless gags!
