I regret not listening to Aamir Khan

TNN | Feb 16, 2015, 04.21PM IST

Mahesh Kothare is a super successful filmmaker in the Marathi industry and has also directed some Hindi films.

But do you know that this acclaimed filmmaker was once rejected by the perfectionist Aamir Khan? In an interview with boxofficeindia.co.in, Mahesh revealed how he regretted not paying heed to Aamir's advice. He said, "I made two Hindi films. My first film was 'Masoom', which was promoted really well and its song 'Chhota baccha...' became a rage. My second film was my own production, 'Lo Main Aa Gaya', for which I initially wanted Aamir Khan. I pursued a meeting with him for a long time and he was kind enough to meet me. In fact, we had five to six meetings. He didn't like the script but he was gracious enough to suggest a few changes that would improve it."

Mahesh further elaborated how he got annoyed at the suggestions and didn't listen to him. He went on to make the movie.

"But, you know, there are times when one goes through something called 'vinash kal vipreet buddhi'. During this time, one's mind is possessed by the devil. So I got annoyed, which I shouldn't have, because he is a very intelligent person. When I look back, I regret NOT listening to Aamir Khan. I thought if I could make a film like Masoom, I could make a film with newcomers and hit the jackpot. So I roped in Govinda's nephew to make the movie and I was wiped out! But then I am a fighter, so I fought back, crawled back, and came back with a bang with 'Pachadlela' - a Marathi mega-hit." Kothare is currently busy with the mythological TV series 'Jai Malhar' which he is producing. The serial stars Devdatta Nage as Lord Khandoba, Surabhi hande as his wife Mhalsa and Isha Keskar as Banai.
