Gurgaon girl’s crowning secret her strong views

GURGAON: Aditi Arya, a resident of Nirvana Country in Sector 50, made the city proud by bagging the fbb Femina Miss India World 2015 on Saturday.

It turns out the 21-year-old, who will represent the country at the Miss World pageant, never thought of taking up modeling as her career.

She explained, "I was doing my internship as a research analyst with a city-based MNC, attending conclaves and conferences. But I'm opinionated, and wanted to be heard. The idea of representing my country through the Femina Miss India platform, therefore, intrigued me."

Aditi moved to the city with her family from Chandigarh eight years ago. For her, Gurgaon is truly a city of opportunities. "When I moved here, it was like a fantasy land to me. The city offered immense opportunities. My schooling and exposure to a fast-paced life helped me grow," she told TOI. Galleria market and Leisure Valley were her favourite hangout places and she was regular at the Patio club gym.

Describing her daughter as multi-talented, Aditi's mother Poonam said, "She was a regular at Zumba classes. Simultaneously, she had interest in music, sketching and writing. She never thought of becoming a model, but took the opportunity to achieve higher goals in life."

"At school, she was a perfect mix of innocence, intelligence and amicability, with a serene calmness flowing through her. The first time she took part in a Model United Nations competition, she caught our attention with a remarkable display of writing skills," said Arti Chopra, principal of Amity International School, Sector 46, where Aditi studied after she moved to Gurgaon. She had addressed students of her school a couple of months back.

While completing her BBA from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies in Vivek Vihar, Aditi got involved with NGO Protsahan, which works for welfare of differently-abled children.

"The title is an opportunity for me to take up social causes. I'm glad it will help me make a difference in society," she said.

Nirvana residents were overjoyed with the news. Ashu, a resident who knows the family well, said, "She (Aditi) is extremely sincere and focused. Her family is down-to-earth. We have already congratulated the parents and are waiting for them to return for the celebrations."
