The Hollywood extravaganza was facing jolts right from its inception. The movie of a fictional masked character, who teams up with his American Indian friend 'Tonto' to fight for injustice prevailed in the 19th century's western American, was first planned by Columbia Pictures and Classic Media but later on dropped the idea of filming.
Years after Hollywood biggies Jerry Bruckheimer and Walt Disney decided to revamp the project with a new team of writers and director. Unfortunately, soon Disney backed off the project due to budget constrains as well as the bombed performance of the same generic movie Cowboy & Aliens at the box-office.
Since both Bruckheimer and Depp were interested in the movie, thus, the budget concerns and negotiations again chalked out and this time Disney rejoined the board to set out filming.
Directed by Gore Verbinski, the filming was however not an easy task. The film was decided to shoot in two-three units on various locations to complete on fast pace. While facing the unbearable heat waves, sand storms and snowfalls of New Mexico, Utah, California and Arizona, the movie faced some unexpected shocks like death of Mike Bridger on sets and serious back injuries and frequent falls of Depp while riding horse sequences.
Now when the shooting is over Depp himself feeling relieved rather happy with his character of 'Tonto'. "What is most exciting for me I mean as an actor is the opportunity to play this classic character. It is a sort of rock and roll version of The Lone Ranger, very fast pace and there is a lots of funny stuff in it," said Depp in an interview to a tv channel.
The trailer of the movie is recently released and the movie is scheduled to release on July 3, 2013.
