The big stage of Science College grounds wore a deserted look on Wednesday as Pakistani singer Atif Aslam could not keep his promise with the Raipur janta. Owing to visa troubles, Atif's concert was postponed and thousands of his fans were left disheartened.
Yogesh Agrawal, one of the coordinators said, "The event has been postponed due to visa issues as Atif could not get clearance from the Pakistani authorities, there are no issues from Indian government".
If sources are to be believed, more than 1 crore have been spent on Atif, and show's preparations. "More than 1 crore had been spent on event and promotions here in Raipur. While Atif Aslam and his group charged around 30 lakh, his journey fares and hotel expenses were around 1 lakh," added one of the event organizers on the condition of anonymity.
Fans of Atif who were eagerly waiting to see their favourite singer perform, were saddened by the news. Atul, a class 10th student said, "Raipur is facing tough times with independent concerts. Cancellation of Honey Singh's concert, followed by postponement of Atif Aslam's do - it's heart breaking for music lovers."
Atif has constantly been facing visa problems for travelling in India. He faced similar issues, while he was coming to India to promote Bol. Same problem arose during his singing- based reality show, Sur Kshetra, for which he is one of the judges.
Vicky, one of the coordinators of Miraj, the event management company for which Atif is a client said, "In Pakistan things take their own time. Authorities there haven't okayed his visa, but he will definitely perform in Indore, and the event will not face any setbacks, like Raipur."
His visa proceedings were still not cleared till the time of filing the report. One of the coordinators for the event in the city were furious and blamed Miraj for Atif's absence "We had already done all the arrangements, and this is for Miraj (the event management company which handles Atif Aslam's shows in India) to take care of. How can they commit to concerts, without tackling the visa issues before hand?," the source said.
Till the time of going to press, Atif hadn't arrived in Indore and the organizers were clueless as to what was happening.
