You have always worked in films that are meaningful and will give you a strong character? What kind of work impresses you now?
Times are changing now and cinema should deliver more than just entertainment. It has to connect with the audiences. People should be passionate about what they are telling the audiences. For instance, my latest film that will release soon - Life of Pi deals with children, animals and water - all of which are generally subjects that cinema chooses to be away from. Even if occasionally I would have done a film that was not meaningful, the effort is always to do things that my heart connects with. And I think with filmmakers like Anurag Basu, Dibakar Banerjee, Tigmanshu Dhulia, we are getting to see different cinema also. I would like to work in films that the audience remembers after they leave the theater. Not a film that will not even make the viewer remember the starcast of the film after he leaves the theater.

Do you care about awards and recognition?
No, I don't care about awards, I am comfortable with myself, want to work hard, everything else will follow.

In the present day world, what is your idea of being 'cool'?
Well, it is more of a use & throw attitude that the present day generation likes to follow. The whole world it seems is in a fast forward mode. So everybody has their own sense of being 'cool'. Mumbai is suffering from a major population explosion and the infrastructure is not enough to support the progress. It is difficult to walk from one end to another in the city. So being 'cool' actually means to have the guts to strive for whatever they think right from their heart.
