With action films ruling the roost for the most part this year, an out-and-out sentimental romance flick has been rare to come by.
Starring Kartik Tiwari and Nushrat Bharucha, AkaashVani is one such prem kahaani that aims to take you back to the world where innocence was the order of the day and love happened face-to-face rather than on social networks.
Writer-director Luv Ranjan explains, "A record number of hits in the romance genre exist because of evergreen jodis. When they loved, we loved them. When they laughed, we laughed and flirted with them. And when they cried, we cried with them. Maybe it was the chemistry they shared, maybe it was the comfort level, or maybe it was the way they stared into each other's eyes... those nuances hold audiences spellbound even today. I hope to recreate that aura through Kartik and Nushrat." So why do romance flicks work? Ranjan answers, "The genre has always been a favourite with the audience. In fact, I would confidently say that even films of other genres are not complete without an element of romance in them!"
Interestingly, AkaashVani is not Kartik's and Nushrat's first brush with a love story. The duo had earlier worked in Ranjan's romcom Pyaar Ka Punchnama. "But unlike Pyaar Ka... where they were busy fighting, in my new venture they are not," Ranjan reveals.
AkaashVani, produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak's A Wide Frame Pictures, releases January 18.
