Director Subhash Kapoor introduced Arshad to his lawyer friend, Girish Sharma Jolly, who helped the actor understand the nuances of his character. Arshad and Boman are good friends off screen and kept cracking up while shooting a scene where they had to abuse each other. While shooting the song Daru Pee Ke Nachna, the joke on the set was that Arshad wet his pants. Well, wet he did, but that's because the actor kept spilling water on his pants. Amrita got hurt while shooting for the same song. An assistant dancer's hand hit her eye, but she continued to shoot. As an encouraging gesture, Arshad sent her flowers the next day! Bappi Lahiri sang a special song for the film, Mere Toh L Lag Gaye. But after censor board's objection, the explicit word was changed to 'law'!
Director's Take
Subhash Kapoor Jolly LLB has been inspired by what I have seen in courts. It looks at the reality of our legal system and will not only entertain the audience, but also make them reflect. It is a common man's story. It's about the aam admi's struggles, dreams, challenges and aspirations. Can an underdog survive the task of taking on the high and the mighty, especially in the legal system? Emotional, high on drama and using comic satire as a medium, Jolly LLB follows the life of a struggling lawyer, Jagdish Tyagi. In his quest to make it big, he decides to reopen a hit-and-run case that pits him against the biggest lawyer in the country, Tejinder Rajpal.
Producer's note
Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios
Jolly LLB is the kind of cinema that is not only endearing, but also thought-provoking. It is a common man's tale; an underdog who faces an insurmountable challenge and how he rises above it. Jolly warms our hearts and displays a charming sense of humour. Through this film, we want to put across the message that we are committed to producing meaningful, entertaining and content-heavy cinema, that finds resonance with the masses. Jolly LLB, produced by Fox Star Studios, releases March 15.
