Pran's daughter rubbishes reports on Phalke award

Contrary to media reports that no one from actor Pran's family was there to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke award in Delhi on Friday the actor's daughter Pinky Bhalla has clarified that there were 10 members from the family but as per the protocol the award is only given to the receipient and not any other family member.

On Wednesday Pinky had already told TOI, "He is not fit enough to travel to Delhi to receive the award.''

Asked if a family member will be going to receive on Pran's behalf, Pinky said, "No. They will not give it to anyone else. The ministry has to decide how they wish to give him the award."

It has been for nearly five years that the Hindi film industry has been recommending his name for the Phalke Award, but at the last minute some other artiste or technician would be given the award.

Although it has been a tradition that the winner has to go to Delhi to receive the award, it may probably be for the first time that an artiste will receive his award at his home.

A source said, "The I&B ministry and Pran's family have together decided that since he cannot travel because of his health does not permit him there is chance that committee may come home to give him the award.''

Pran has worked in films for 65 years and has to his credit about 350 films.
