The actor's personal life has been tumultuous of late, with the two women in his life, estranged wife Nandita Puri and ex-wife Seema Kapoor waging a very public war against each other.
In a telephonic conversation from France yesterday, the actor told TOI that he is indeed enjoying the respite from his domestic woes. "I am far from the miseries of home and enjoying my stay here. I and Helen share a great rapport and that makes the shoot all the more enjoyable," said the actor.
The film revolves around an Indian family which moves to France and opens a restaurant a hundred feet across the street from a Michelin-starred French restaurant, run by a competitive foodie played by Mirren.
Puri plays the patriarch of the desi family who falls for Mirren's character and a romance ensues. So will we see the two veterans getting steamy onscreen? "The romance is a spiritual one rather than being physical in its nature and as of now we have not shot any lovemaking scenes," said the actor.
Puri is enjoying his French stint nonetheless and the actor has been put up in a spacious apartment as he did not want to stay in a hotel. But it is not all play for the actor who is kept busy by the ten hour long shooting schedules. The hard work seems to be paying off as he recently received a congratulatory message from Speilberg. "He was very happy when he saw the first rushes and sent us a message saying the same," said the actor who will be heading to Holland after the nine week French schedule.
But the reverie may be shortlived for the actor as he is facing domestic abuse charges back home. "I will have to come back. My son is back in India and I have kept in touch with him over the phone," said the actor.
