Azmi was a Mumbai-based lawyer, who defended people arrested on false charges and was later murdered following multiple death threats because of his work. His incredible dedication to helping innocent people and his fate convinced director Hansal Mehta to make a film on his life.
The film releases amidst complete support from Azmi's family, especially his brother Khalid. "Raj Kumar has brought my brother alive. The film is 95% accurate and completely unbiased," says Khalid. His entire family was part of the film's research process and gave many valuable inputs.
Adding to this, Raj Kumar says, "Shahid Azmi's work was exemplary. He never backed down from fighting for the rights of people who he believed were innocent. He is a true icon."
Shahid, Produced by UTV Spotboy, Sunil Bohra and Anurag Kashyap, releases today.
