Not just actors and filmmakers, but production houses from the South are also making forays into Bollywood. The newest entrant is Carnival Group's AOPL Entertainment Pvt Ltd, which has produced Malayalam hits like Violin, Second and Matinee. Their debut Hindi film 'War Chhod Na Yaar' stars Sharman Joshi, Soha Ali Khan and Jaaved Jaaferi and features singers like Bappi Lahiri, Shreya Ghoshal, Daler Mehndi, Kailash Kher, Ali Azmat and Javed Ali.

Shrikant Bhasi, Chairman of Carnival Group, says, "We decided to first make Malayalam films to understand the technical aspects. We're now ready for Bollywood, which is a much bigger industry." As for why they decided to debut with a war comedy, he explains, "We wanted to make a patriotic film with good content and a strong message.

Of the five films AOPL has produced, four have new directors and actors. "We launched Dulquer Salmaan, son of legendary actor Mammootty, in the South. We want to encourage young talent in Bollywood too," he enthuses. Recalling his first meeting with his Hindi film director Faraz Haider, the producer says, "When I first saw him, I wondered if this little guy would be able make a movie on such a strong subject. But Haider is fantastic."

The group, also into food courts, multiplexes, equipment rentals as well as music labels, plans to launch 200 screens all over India soon. "We will also be producing more content in music and entertainment," concludes Bhasi.
