The Sherlyn Chopra-starrer created a record of pre-sale at Cannes 2013 and Paul feels it is befitting to have a premiere there as Indian cinema is being accepted well by the international audience.
"I am already preparing to send the film for Cannes and Berlin. The selection will be purely on merit and I am hoping we will make it. India was the guest country at Cannes this year and people are taking Indian cinema very seriously for the last four years.
"Directors like Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Bannerjee got a lot of visibility in Cannes. So, I am wishing for a premiere there but if it does not happen then we will just release the film here," Paul told PTI in an interview.
The last date for submission of films for the 67th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is March 16 next year.
'Kamasutra 3D' will be in Hindi and English. It is based on Vatsayana Kamasutra, an ancient Hindu text in Sanskrit literature. The movie is set in the backdrop of the real historical milieu.
Kerala-based filmmaker Paul, who has earlier directed Malayam films like 'Laptop', 'Pithavum Kanyakayum', said considering the strict censorship of films in India, he has prepared two versions of 'Kamasutra 3D'.
"We will release two versions of the film - an Indian version, which is a very mellowed down version and another for the rest of the world. We are looking for distributors here.
Other than India we have sold the distributions rights in almost every Asian country, Europe and the US," Paul said on the sidelines of IFFI, where the first trailer of his film was launched.
