While the entire city of Kolkata is busy paying its tribute to the Master Blaster, going gaga over his penultimate match at the Eden gardens, the star himself found some time out to shower adulation on a person he looks up to. Last evening, Usha Uthup got a surprise hug from Sachin Tendulkar. A self confessed fan of the singer, Sachin ran towards her when he spotted her at the hotel he is putting up at. Uthup was there to attend a meeting of the organization, The Bengal, and her birthday celebrations were on the way. Tendulkar hugged her and praised her song Darling from the film 7 Khoon Maaf profusely. He also told her that it is his favourite song.
Incidentally, the admiration is not one sided, but mutual. A day before Sachin made his fondness for the musical diva clear, Uthup adopted an innovative way to pay her tributes to the cricketing legend. Instead of her trademark 'ka', the Bengali alphabet corresponding to 'K' that she usually sports on her bindi, she sported an 'S' as a mark of respect to Sachin.
