When Farooq Sheikh invited me to Kashmir

"Adaab, How are you?" That is how Farooq Sheikh addressed me when I called him for the first time to get a quote for my story. He was gentle, sweet and so well mannered that it made me wonder how can a star of his status have no airs or starry tantrums.

His voice was so sweet and he was so friendly that we instantly formed a bond over the phone. He was polite, soft spoken and extremely patient while giving me quotes as I took time in jotting down the notes. He was very excited about the success of his film Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and accepted that he had received much appreciation for his role as a cool and understanding dad in the movie. He was all praise for Ranbir, Deepika and the director of the film, and said that the movie was a blockbuster hit because it touched the pulse of the audience.

When I spoke to him about his special appearance on the TV show Do Dil Ek Jaan, he said that he accepted the role only because it highlighted Kashmir's social issues. He spoke passionately about Kashmir and said he would always love to be part of projects where Kashmir was portrayed in a positive light.

As the call ended and I had enough material for my story, I thanked him and he graciously asked me to visit him whenever I went to Kashmir. How I regret that I will never be able to meet a man with a gentle heart and an enigmatic smile and an actor who had no starry airs about him.
