How do you react when people perceive you as a sex symbol? To me these are just perceptions. They vastly differ from reality. I may be a sex symbol but this image doesn't define me. It's just one aspect of my individuality. It's unfair. When a girl is pretty and hot, people draw conclusions about her. But not every hottie is a stereotype.
You posed for Playboy. What is your take on being perceived by Indians as being too bold? Yes, I'm bold. And I'm glad that I choose to express my individuality in unadulterated ways.
You are half Muslim and half Christian. Tell us a little about your years growing up and how did your parents react to you joining the film industry? I was raised a Christian. I used to go to Church more than twice a week. I was my Pastor's favourite student at Sunday school. That was because I used to show an unusual interest to know about the gospel, and the word of God. After joining the film industry, today, my folks are surprised to know if I am the same person who was once God's child.
Are you still God's child? I am still God's child but I don't believe in the concept of God. I believe in humanity.
Is there a traditional side to you too? I don't know if I believe in traditions. But like I said, I believe in humanity. I am a little old fashioned when it comes to love making. A one night-stand doesn't excite me. It takes nerve to say yes to any relationship. You need to be courageous. I believe in love. I am demanding and I wish I find someone who can live up to them and accept me as I am.
Are there any kind of roles that you are looking out for in Bollywood? I don't want to restrict myself to just Bollywood. I want to be a part of global cinema.
Do you feel that you will get stereotyped in film roles? I would get stereotyped only if I allow myself to get stereotyped. The power to shape my destiny lies within me.
Have you anytime faced the casting couch? If yes, how did you respond to that? The couch/sofa/bed can be used for multi purposes. Casting, however, is not one of them. Initially, I would ignore indecent proposals. Not anymore. Now, I give tit for tat.
Your take on moral policing that is so rampant in India I have zero tolerance for nonsense, the synonym of which is moral policing.
