Yesteryear actress Nanda passes away

Veteran Hindi film actress Nanda passed away on Tuesday morning. She was 75.

Born to Vinayak Damodar Karnataki, a Marathi film actor-director, Nanda started her film career as a child artist with the film 'Jaggu'. She got her first break as the lead actress in V Shantaram's 'Toofan aur Diya', a film that revolved around a brother-sister bond.

Nanda received her first Filmfare nomination for the film 'Bhabhi' in the supporting role category. While she did not receive that, she got her Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1960 for 'Aanchal'.

Nanda acted in films like 'Dhool Ka Phool', 'Dulhan', 'Bhabhi', 'Jab Jab Phool Khile', 'Gumnaam', 'Shor', 'Parineeta'. 'Prem Rog', which released in 1983, starring Padmini Kolhapure and Rishi Kapoor was her last film.

Nanda remained unmarried throughout her life after Manmohan Desai who she was engaged to in 1992, died after falling from the terrace of his apartment in 1994.

She will be remembered by many for her various roles in Bollywood films and her timeless beauty. May her soul rest in peace!
