Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, Chandrabindoo has composed a special number to motivate GenY

The heat is on. As political parties cross swords for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission is going all out to ensure that it's a fair battle. Aamir Khan, who has been roped in as EC's national icon, will soon be seen urging people to vote "ethically" through a series of recorded video and audio campaigns. Back home, Bangla band Chandrabindoo, too, is doing its bit to encourage youngsters to come out and exercise their voting rights.

A song, Shuye shuye neender shortcut chharo, has been composed by the band as part of EC's Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme. The objective is to motivate electors to vote and take part in nation-building. The lyrics have been written by Chandril and the song has been put to tune by Upal, Shibu and Surajit from the band. Sung by Anindya, Upal and Prashmita, it urges young voters to act responsibly by taking part in the electoral process.

For Chandrabindoo, which has always been a great source of inspiration for the young generation, this sure is a new role. Says Upal, "The song is meant to draw the young crowd, make them feel more responsible towards the nation, and urge them to cast their votes. It's a huge honour."
