We have all grown up watching Alok Nath aka Babuji playing sanskari roles in many Bollywood films. But no one had ever imagined that the seasoned actor who is known for playing character roles will one day become a topic of discussion on social networking sites and a laughing stock on Twitter. Alok Nath is a student of the prestigious National School of Drama-Termed as the sanskari babuji by the twitterati's, Alok Nath Nath grew up in Delhi and studied at the Modern School and Hindu College. The actor was actively part of a theatre group Ruchika during his college days. And because of this he joined the prestigious National School of Drama for a graduate degree in theatre. He also directed plays for Modern School and Convent of Jesus and Mary.

He was Tina Munim's hero in a film: Apart from spreading awareness about Indian sanskaars and doing numerous kanyadaans on-screen, Alok Nath has also done films with romantic stories. However, what most of us are not aware is that Alok Nath has done romantic roles in Bollywood films. In one of his Hindi films he was paired opposite the beautiful Tina Munim. The actor was not only seen romancing her but was also seen running around the trees. Alok Nath did a few younger roles as well. In Kaamaagni which released in 1987, Alok Nath was seen doing sensuous love making scenes. However, in spite of these scenes, the film miserably failed at the box-office. The actor was quoted saying in one of his interviews, "It was too ahead of its time (Kaamaagni). After that, I said to myself 'Let it be.' I had gotten fame early. I got money."

When Alok Nath turned down the offer to play Jeetendra's father: All his life Alok Nath has played babuji to some of the leading hero and heroines of Bollywood and on TV. However, there was one time when he had to turn down an offer to play babuji on-screen. Wondering who was that unlucky actor who was not blessed to receive babuji's ashirwad?He is none other than the legendary superstar Jeetendra. In an interview to Rediff. com, Alok Nath said, "I have played father to people who were older than me. I have played father to Jackie Shroff and Rishi Kapoor. I have never said no to a film. Except once, 20, 25 years ago, when a producer from Madras wanted me to play Jeetendra's father."

Biggest break in acting was Buniyaad: Though he is mostly remembered for being part of many successful Bollywood films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Taal, Pardes and Vivah. The actor's claim to fame role was his character of Haveli Ram in Ramesh Sippy's TV show Buniyaad. Alok Nath was very young when he started working on Buniyaad. He was in his 20s then. In the TV show Buniyaad, the actor played the character of Haveli Ram which starts in the early 20s and by the show's closure he ended up playing the role a person in his 80s. He played that role within the span of a year.

He started playing the role of a father since his early 20s: Father figure role are synonymous with Alok Nath. The actor has appeared in many films as a father. From playing a father's role to some of the prettiest faces in the industry to playing father to heroes older to him, Alok Nath has done it all. The actor in one of his interviews to Rediff.com admitted that he played father to people who were older than him. "I have played father to Jackie Shroff and Rishi Kapoor." Even in his noted TV show Buniyaad, Alok Nath played a father at the age of just 20.

Has worked in more than 500 films and 40-50 TV shows: Though Alok Nath is popular for playing roles of a father in a few blockbuster films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Taal, Pardes and Vivah, the actor has a long list of movies to his credit. He has actually worked in more than 500 films and 40-50 TV shows. Alok Nath has not just limited himself to doing work in Hindi TV and film projects. He has worked in many regional films like Bengali, Rajasthani, and Tamil to name a few. During his stay in Mumbai, Alok Nath also worked with Nadira Babbar's theatre group and did many plays at Prithvi which got him noticed in Bollywood.

Played negative roles: From doing theatre to TV to films: Alok Nath always tried to prove his versatility. Though the actor has mastered the art of playing 'babuji', he never shied away from playing different characters. The veteran actor experimented by playing negative characters in films like Shadyantra, Bol Radha Bol and Vinashak - Destroyer. However, all these negative characters couldn't do what his sansakari roles did for him.
