Be it heights or water, close space or elevators, darkness or fire, each one of us has some phobia or the other. While some of us are brave enough to accept it, there are many who just don't like to talk about their phobias for the fear of being ridiculed. Sometimes these fears are situational as they remind us of a tragic incident in our life but many a times, they are just irrational. Many of our celebs too have their shares of phobias and insecurities. Let's have a look at these bizarre fears.
Dark room: The cute and vivacious Alia Bhatt, who won our hearts with her performance in movies such as Highway and 2 States, is scared of darkness and cannot sleep without a dim light aglow in her room. Quoting the pretty actress, a TOI report says that she still sleeps with a curtain slightly open. The report adds that her fear from darkness probably stems from childhood when her sister would keep her locked up in a dark room. "I'd keep crying to get me out of the room. I think my fear for dark rooms began since then, " she added.

Ceiling fans: Actor Arjun Kapoor, who has a rather macho image onscreen, has a rather odd phobia. A TOI report says the actor has an unexplained fear of ceiling fans. Hence, it is for this reason that the 2 States actor allegedly doesn't have a single ceiling fan in his house. Well we sure hope his home is centrally air-conditioned.

Mirrors: Blonde beauty Pamela Anderson, who was in the news recently for divorcing her husband Rick Salomon, has an ironical fear. The actress suffers from Eisoptrophobia- an abnormal and persistent fear of mirrors. It seems Pamela has a fear from mirrors and cannot stand to see her own reflection. In fact, she once said in an interview that she doesn't like seeing mirrors and herself on television. Well considering she is in the glamour industry, we just wonder how does Pamela Anderson sustain having such a complex fear.

Butterflies: The gorgeous Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley is scared of one of the most beautiful creations of God- butterflies. She is very scared of butterflies that she runs into panic mode when she sees one. A report in mid-may said while shooting for No Entry in Thailand, Celina spotted a butterfly and was so frightened that she started running, heading straight for a cliff. She could have fallen to her death had her co-stars Lara Dutt and Esha Deol not saved her. In fact, the report then quoted her mother Meeta Jaitley, who said that Celina has this fear of butterflies ever since she was four.

Birds: Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson is scared of birds and cockroaches. She has often gone on record to speak about her irrational fears. In an interview with New York magazine, she said that there is something about wings and beaks and the flapping that she is scared of them. She also feels that since her uncle is terrified of birds, this fear runs in their family. Well that is indeed a weird trait to pass on!

Chewing gum: Actress-cum-talk show pro Oprah Winfrey is indeed an interesting personality. She has the weirdest fear of all and that is of chewing gum. She has this fear since childhood and has talked about it several times. In an interview to Contactmusic.com, she said that she is so anti-gum that she banned anyone from chewing gum in a building in Chicago where she records her TV show. In fact, in an interview with Jamie Foxx, she revealed how her grandmother used to chew gum, then stick it in the cabinet. She felt so grossed out that she was scared of it. Interestingly, the fear of chewing gum is called Chiclephobia.

Clowns: The macho Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp has the looks and attitude. However, he is scared of clowns as he feels there is something evil about them. In an interview to Daily Star, Depp said that he has had this fear of clowns for years. He added, "It's impossible, thanks to their painted-on smiles, to distinguish if they are happy or if they are about to bite your face off. There always seemed to be a darkness lurking just under the surface, a potential for real evil." Interestingly, Depp played the character clown-like Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland.

Bacteria: The gorgeous Hollywood actress Megan Fox, who enjoys immense popularity among her fans, has multiple phobias. She is scared of bacteria and germs so much that she cannot us public loos or touch dry paper as she feels she will contract germs. Speaking to Allure magazine, the actress admitted that she feels queasy when in public places, especially in bathrooms and restaurants.

Eggs: While many of us don't like eggs and are allergic to it, it is shocking to know that there is someone who is scared of eggs. Late English film director and producer Alfred Hitchcock was scared of eggs. While no one knows what led to this irrational fear, reports suggested that he was indeed scared of it. In fact, BIBLIOKLEPT quoted him as saying that he is frightened of eggs. "That white round thing without any holes … have you ever seen anything more revolting than an egg yolk breaking and spilling its yellow liquid?" Well we can now be sure that the ace director sure didn't have eggs for breakfast.
