American actress Elizabeth Pena, who appeared in films such as Lone Star and Rush Hour, passed away at the age of 55. Quoting The Hollywood Reporter, an IANS report says that it was her nephew Mario-Francisco Robles who broke this news on the website Latino Review, where he serves as a writer. He said that she passed away on October 14 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a brief illness. This versatile actress was also very good at comedy. Childhood: Born on September 23, 1959, in New Jersey, Elizabeth Pena was very talented and was also close to her parents. Her father was an arts administrator and producer and her mother was an actor-cum-writer, who co-founded the Latin American Theatre Ensemble. She was always eager to follow her father's footsteps and joined New York's High School of the Performing Arts. In fact, she started doing theatre and came in a few commercials while she was still pursuing her graduation. Interestingly, her classmates were Ving Rhames and Esai Morales, who later became her co-stars.

Career: Elizabeth made her debut in the Latino comedy El Super (1979) at the age of 17. She then starred in a number of small, independent films in the early 80s where she played varied roles such as a disco queen and a life threatening waitress. However, she reportedly got her first break in 1986 in the comic flick Down and Out in Beverly Hills. Here she played the role of a seductive, politically-minded maid. She then did two of the biggest films of her career- Lone Star (1996) and Rush Hour (1998).

Personal life: Elizabeth Pena got married to William Kibler, who was a teacher by profession. However, their marriage ended in a divorce in the early 1990s. She then married a carpenter, Hans Rolla, in 1994. They had two teenaged children- Fiona and Kaelan. Besides her husband and children, she is survived by her mother Estela and her sister Tania.
