The accused who had allegedly slapped Gauahar Khan during the shoot of the finale of the singing reality show, India's Raw Star, has claimed that he was just trying to protect himself and other youngsters from women who damage their minds and instigate them to commit crimes like rape by wearing short clothes. According to a report in Mid-day, 24-year-old Akil Malik is a junior artist who had been attending the shoot of India's Raw Star for three days before slapping the show's anchor Gauahar Khan for wearing short clothes. In his statement to the police, Malik reportedly claimed that he had tried to control himself despite seeing Gauahar wear short clothes but couldn't take it anymore and slapped her. The report quotes Senior Inspector Vilas Chavan as saying that the accused didn't like seeing girls in skirts as he thought they led to sexual attraction. He further stated that the accused was produced in the Borivali court and remanded in police custody till Thursday.

Singing reality show India's Raw Star concluded in a star-studded finale. Participant Rituraj Mohanty bagged the title of India's Raw Star. However, the show's host, Gauahar Khan made headlines when someone from the audience slapped her during the finale. According to a report in TOI, Gauahar Khan was allegedly attacked and threatened by an audience member for her skimpy outfit. In a report by the Aarey colony police, the man in the crowd questioned Gauahar's behaviour. He was quoted as saying, "being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress."

A report in PTI states that the accused, identified as Mohammed Akil Mallick (24), slapped and touched her inappropriately during the break of the show, but was immediately overpowered by the security guards deployed there, following which the police were notified. Senior inspector at Aarey police station, Vilas Chavan, told that the accused was subsequently arrested and booked under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).

After 14 weeks and 13 concerts, Rituraj Mohanty was chosen as India's first Raw Star. The winner took home a car, a contract with Star Plus and a huge sum of Rs 50 lakh. The other artists who were in the fight for this title were Darshan Raval from Ahmedabad and Mohit Gaur from Jaipur.

Speaking about his victory, the winner said, "It is very difficult for me to sink in the feeling that I have won this show. Firstly I would like to thank Yo Yo Honey Singh and Star Plus for getting me on the show and for giving me such a huge platform to perform on. Himesh Reshammiya has been such a great mentor and a huge support. I would like to extend my love filled thank you to all my fans as they are responsible for my win! I dedicate this win to all my fans." Himesh who has already promised a song to the artist, said, "He has a brilliant voice and great talent. The show was not just about singing but about also outstanding performances and this is the reason why the audience have gone all out to vote for him. We all are very happy with the decision and hope all success comes his way."

The grand finale was a grand affair as expected, with some foot-tapping performances from the artists. To make the finale look more larger-than-life, Kailash Kher, Mohit Chauhan and Shaan joined the top three. Kailash Kher and singer Rituraj Mohanty crooned a heart-warming Sufi number and Shaan and Mohit Gaur took the crowd by surprise with their performance. Darshan and Mohit Chauhan brought some much needed romance. Besides this, the show's previously eliminated contestants also came back on the show. The gorgeous host of the show Gauahar Khan was also seen shaking-a-leg in the finale along with Jeffrey and Darshan.

Making their presence felt on the India's Raw Star Finale were Sajid and Wajid along with the lead of Tevar, Arjun Kapoor. Artists and the celebrity singers came together to sing a special song on Swachh Bharat which was written and composed by talented duo Sachin and Jigar. To join them in this initiative Kailash Kher, Shaan, Mohit Chauhan, Himesh and all the other raw stars also came together.
