The latest film to jump on the remake bandwagon is Rakesh Roshan's Khoon Bhari Maang. The 1988 film that was a remake of the Australian mini-series Return To Eden, is about a wealthy widow who is almost killed by her lover and seeks revenge. According to a report in Mid-day, the film is supposedly being considered for a remake. The report further suggests that Deepika Padukone was approached for the lead role in the film and that she has apparently given her nod to the project. The original film was a comeback vehicle for Rekha and managed to catapult her to success post her break.

We take a look at other remakes that are awaiting their turn at the ticket windows.

When it comes to the box-office, Bollywood seems to love its remakes. That explains why filmmakers are often keen on presenting their take on a particular film. In keeping with the trend, a remake of the 1958 Kishore Kumar, Madhubala-starrer, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi is reportedly being planned. According to a report by Indian Express, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai are all set to reprise the roles of Kishore Kumar and Madhubala respectively in the remake that will apparently be directed by Rohit Shetty.

Remakes are not new in Bollywood and the latest news doing the rounds is that critic-filmmaker-author Khalid Mohamed is set to remake a classic. A Mumbai Mirror report states that an official remake of Sai Paranjpye's 1983 film Katha is on the cards. David Dhawan had given a contemporary twist to Paranjpe's 1981 film Chashme Buddoor, which released in April, 2013. Now Katha will have a modern take to it. Further to reports in Mumbai Mirror, Anjum Rizvi, who is putting together the project, asserts that though this Katha will be upgraded to fit into a 2015 setting, it will remain true to Sai's original vision. "We don't intend to play around with the story or commercialize it. The film will remain true to its tortoise-and-hare story line," he was quoted saying.

Ram Lakhan: Director Rohit Shetty has had a string of successful films in his career. The filmmaker who has had a blockbuster run at the box-office this year with Singham Returns, is set to remake Subhash Ghai's Ram Lakhan. Released in 1989, the original starred Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit, Dimple Kapadia and Raakhee. In the remake, Shetty will join hands with Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts and Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. In fact, announcing the development, Dharma Production's Twitter page read, "Here's the big announcement! Rohit Shetty & Karan Johar, in association with Mukta Arts, presents Ram Lakhan in 2016." [sic] Speculations are rife as to who will play the two brothers from the original. An Indian Express report states that Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh have been roped in to play the lead roles while Jacqueline Fernandez may play Dimple Kapadia's role from the original.

Khalnayak: Subhash Ghai's earlier films seem to have inspired many filmmakers into remaking them. The latest one that seems to have caught the fancy of Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the film Khalnayak. The filmmaker has apparently approached Ghai to seek permission to remake the film. A Mumbai Mirror report says that the director has approached the veteran film maker. Quoting a source, the report further states, "Bhansali has proposed a collaboration between his production house and Ghai's banner Mukta Arts. The meeting took place in Ghai's house and he is not averse to the idea." Khalnayak revolves around the capture of dreaded gangster Ballu (Sanjay Dutt), by inspector Ram (Jackie Shroff). Ballu escapes and Ram's cop-girlfriend, Ganga (Madhuri Dixit) goes undercover to expose him. But eventually she lets him go and is arrested for aiding a criminal and accused of being in a relationship with him. As she stands trial, Ballu surrenders and swears that Ganga is still pure.

Tevar: Brothers Boney and Sanjay Kapoor are producing their ambitious project Tevar starring Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha. This is the first time that the father-son duo will work together. The film, which is set in Agra, is a remake of the South film Okkadu. Since movies down South are box-office hits, it can be safe to say that Tevar might clock in the figures at the box-office. While Arjun's work has been appreciated in Bollywood, Sonakshi has had a series of hits to her credit and it remains to be seen whether their onscreen chemistry is appreciated by the audience. Though Arjun Kapoor's last outing 2 States was a romantic comedy, Tevar will have high-octane action sequences and will see the Kapoor lad in a new avatar as an action hero. Another treat will be Shruti Haasan's item number in the film. Tevar, which is slated for release on January 9, 2015, will not face much competition as there is no big film releasing that weekend. This one definitely seems to be promising and will set the mood for other releases in the new year.

Action Jackson: Prabhu Dheva is the director with the Midas touch. He has had some of the biggest hits in Bollywood with films like Wanted and Rowdy Rathore minting money at the ticket windows. Now the director is set for his next release, Action Jackson, starring Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha. This film is a remake of the Telugu movie Dookudu which starred Mahesh Babu and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in lead roles. While the Telugu original had one of the largest openings, Prabhu Dheva's Hindi remake of the film is also expected to hit the bull's eye. For the first time, Sonakshi Sinha will be seen in a glamorous avatar. Action Jackson is slated for release on December 5. Interestingly, there was some controversy surrounding the film's name as it shares the same title with a Hollywood film which released in 1989. According to a report in India Today, producer Gordan Tanwani was quoted saying, "When you register a title with any or all of these associations, they get their clearance from the government of India. My film is 70 per cent complete, why have they sent a notice now? Why do they have an objection now and not earlier. What was the need to send a notice? They should have called the associations because they are also the member of the same association. I am surprised."
