A Muslim himself, the singer-actor-director spearheads the MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) campaign and took to Twitter to share his shock and frustration over the incident. He tweeted, "Dearest natural selection, please help us out-evolve morons like the one who slapped Gauhar Khan. Sincerely..." He was one of the many men who spoke up in the model-actress' support on Twitter.

Madhur Bhandarkar, the filmmaker with several women-oriented movies like Fashion, Heroine, Chandni Bar to his credit, also spoke up on the issue soon after the news broke out. In a rant of sorts, Madhur tweeted, "Shocked to hear that Gauhar Khan got slapped for alleged indecency. Absurdity just touched a new level. Disgusting and highly condemnable."
