Katrina Kaif has been in the news for her alleged link up to the Kapoor scion, Ranbir. The Barbie doll of Bollywood has always remained quiet when it comes to her personal life. Before making her Bollywood debut with Boom in 2003, Katrina began her career at the tender age of 14 as a model for a jewellery campaign. The actress has not really revealed her actual age to her fans and the media reports suggest that she was born in 1983 while some speculate her year of birth to be 1984.

The pretty actress was born as Katrina Turquotte and is half British and Half Indian. Her father, Mohammed Kaif is a British businessman of Kashmiri descent and her mother is English. Katrina was born in Hong Kong but lived in Hawaii till she was 14, before moving to London and finally Mumbai. Katrina has a large family with six sisters and one brother. She has travelled across China, France, Switzerland, Poland, Japan, Belgium, Poland and other European countries with her mother.

Katrina's ancestry remains a mystery. Jackie Shroff's wife Ayesha Shroff, who produced Katrina's debut film Boom, in an interview to Mumbai Mirror in 2011 revealed the actress' identity. The report quote her as saying, "Her passport says Turquotte. We created an identity for her. She was this pretty young English girl, and we gave her the Kashmiri father and thought of calling her Katrina Kazi. We thought we'd give her some kind of Indian ancestry, to connect with the audience. Those times were different, now people are more accepting. But then we thought that Kazi sounded too religious. We were to introduce her to the press and at that time, Mohammad Kaif was at the top, and so we said, Katrina Kaif sounds really great. In fact, the brochures for the press say Katrina Kazi. We passed that off saying that was a printing mistake."

While Katrina's last release Bang Bang has been a blockbuster hit, very few know that Kat was supposed to do Anurag Basu's Barfi! According to an interview in Mumbai Mirror, the director was quoted saying, "I've wanted to work with Kat for a while now. She was supposed to do Barfi! but Ileana D'Cruz went on to do the role." Katrina has been very selective about her roles and while she has had a solo release this year, the actress gears up for a series of films which will release in 2015.

In the film Welcome, Katrina wore a Rs 2 lakh outfit that was gifted to her by famed international designer Emilio Pucci. Katrina likes Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan, Kajol and Madhuri Dixit as actors. She also reportedly hates wearing makeup. Kat is adored by fans and is the most photographed woman in India and was also the most searched Bollywood celebrity as per Google's 2008, 2009, and 2010 data. Katrina also made it to the No.1 spot when she was voted as FHM India's 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll. She also makes it to Forbes India Celebrity 100 list at the No. 9 spot, making her the only Bollywood actress to reach the top 10 in the power list. Katrina has never won a Filmfare Award despite being nominated twice for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and New York. Her hobbies include acting, dancing, playing chess, watching movies, painting and resting to name a few. Katrina loves to dress up casually, mostly in denims and a vest. According to wonderwoman.intoday.in, Katrina is said to be afraid of the dark and the actress is also a bit religious. Katrina allegedly visits Siddhivinayak Temple and Mount Mary Church before any film's release.

According to wonderwoman.intoday.in, the actress would take taxis and visit advertising agencies to hand out her portfolio in the initial days of her career. Not only that, Kat was also said to have auditioned at studios, holding a banner with her phone number scribbled on it. Allegedly, it was Mukesh Bhatt who discovered Katrina at Taj Lands End coffee shop in Mumbai and cast her in his film Saaya opposite John Abraham. But she was later removed as she could not speak a word of Hindi. Other reports in the media claim that it was Boom director Kaizad Gustad who first met Katrina. Whatever be the truth is, it will always remain a mystery.
