According to a Mumbai Mirror report, Manish Paul, who made his big screen debut with Mickey Virus in 2013, will be seen in Khalid Mohamed's remake of Sai Paranjpye's 1983 cult classic Katha. He is replacing Sohum Shah, who was the first choice for the role, and was out of the project following date clashes and creative differences, the report stated. According to the filmmaker, Manish is far better choice than Sohum. "He has a lot more star value and is an interesting guy," the report quoted Khalid. Filmmaker Khalid Mohamed told Mirror, "Sohum was still in the Tumbad mode and we mutually agreed that he could not get into the skin of Vasu's character which is a once-in-a-lifetime role. Sai would have slippered me if she was disappointed in any which way. We have got a replacement and, as they say, whatever happens happens for the best." Anjum Rizvi, who is putting the script together for the project, corroborated Khalid's statement, pointing out that Sohum couldn't postpone the climax shoot of his upcoming film Tumbad, and they had wanted to roll with the Katha remake on January 2, the report states. A disappointed Sohum admitted to Mirror that he had been really excited about this role. "Farooq sir was one of my favourite actors and it would have been an honour to step into his shoes.Unfortunately, Tumbad is a prior commitment and the film requires a lot of my shooting dates," the report quoted Sohum.

Further to reports in Mumbai Mirror, Anjum Rizvi, who is putting together the project, asserts that though this Katha will be upgraded to fit into a 2015 setting, it will remain true to Sai's original vision. "We don't intend to play around with the story or commercialize it. The film will remain true to its tortoise-and-hare story line," he was quoted saying.
