Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroop that has been plagued with controversy for the last few weeks and is yet to release in Tamil Nadu, managed average numbers in its Hindi version.
The subject of terrorism, as depicted by Kamal, proved too dry for both single and multiplex audiences. Another reason why the film failed to collect is because it doesn't have any popular Bollywood actors alongside the Tamil icon.
As for Bejoy Nambiar's David, the film found critical acclaim, but it's too niche for a theatre-going crowd that need their films to be peppered with song, dance, merriment and mirth.
The movie could have received the box-office advantage of films like Paan Singh Tomar and Gangs Of Wasseypur-I, but when films don't follow formula, they need extremely strong word of mouth to survive at the ticket counters.
