However, the latest is the Supreme Court has ordered a stay on the film's release. The SC has ordered the arbitrator to complete the arbitration proceedings expeditiously and positively within the next six weeks.
The apex court order comes in the wake of Amit's brothers, Sumeet and Puneet, approaching it against the HC order. Amit's remake of his father, late Prakash Mehra's Zanjeer, had run into trouble with his two brothers terminating the contract that gave him the remake rights in the first place. His siblings had alleged that Amit, who had bought the remake rights from them, had defaulted on payments amounting to crores of rupees. Acting on their complaint, the Bombay HC had, on March 27, ordered that the trailer of Zanjeer 2.0 should not be aired until further notice. When the arbitrator upheld the termination of the contract, Amit had approached the Bombay HC.
Coming back to the SC order, Puneet confirmed the same, speaking to TOI from Delhi. While Amit remained unavailable for comment, his lawyer, Senior Managing Partner of Little & Co, J Kapadia, said: "The matter now rests with the arbitrator. We wouldn't like to elaborate further."
Sumeet and Puneet were represented by advocates Snehalata Paranjape and Harish Salve while RF Mariman and Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi represented Amit in the SC.
