The actress wants to step into the shoes of (late) Meena Kumari and is leaving no stone unturned to cast herself in the role of the Sahibjaan of Kamal Amrohi's 1972 classic 'Pakeezah'. On Monday, Meera met Amrohi's son Tajdar and requested him if she can make the film with her own resources.
And Tajdar, who is in no mood to produce or direct his father's magnum opus, has given it a nod of consent.
Meera told TOI: " I simply loved Meena Kumariji in the film. It has played again and again in my mind. I came to India with the dream of wanting to essay the immortal role some day. At this point of time, I am simply too overwhelmed."
When contacted, Tajdar said, "Meera's idea is still in its inception stage. She is like a little child with a big dream. Pakeezah is not an easy film to make. It is a huge challenge. The same sets would cost twenty times more today. Then you have the elaborate costumes, intricate dialogues and not to mention the very aura of the film—none of it is easy to recreate."
"Pakeezah is in the same leagues Mother India, Mughal-E-Azam and Sholay. Meera will have to convince me with her choice of director and music composer before starting the film," he added.
Meera is in the process of finalising the director.
