My next is an entertainer with Prabhudheva: Ajay Devgn

The usually shy Ajay Devgn was all the more reserved when he came to Bangalore to promote Himmatwala. While the actor was extremely delighted, on one hand, that he got to visit Bangalore, a city where one of his best friends stays, after many years, he was also disturbed by the final verdict of the Supreme Court given to Sanjay Dutt for being found guilty for possession of arms. "I cannot comment on it. I am already very upset," was all that the actor told the media. Later, he caught up with TOI for a quick chat. Excerpts...

You're in Bangalore after a long time. What are your earliest memories of the city?
It is quite weird that I've not been able to be a part of Bangalore for a long time. During my college days, Bangalore used to be a frequent holiday destination for my friends and me. In fact, one of my closest friends, who used to aspire to be an actor back then, was from here. I, then, shot in the city during the 90's. Unfortunately, I don't know why I haven't shot here recently, for I love this city.

But your south connect, though, seems to be intact, with your recent remakes.
You know, it is always nice to see good scripts translating into good films across languages. And it is important that one acknowledges it when one uses it for a film. In my recent remakes, be it Son of Sardaar, Singham or this one, Himmatwala, we've taken the essence, but the eventual product is very different from the original. But, we've still acknowledged the inspiration.

If you were to remake any of your films today, which would it be?
I don't know... I'm not sure if I would want to remake any of my films. Phool Aur Kaante was a very good film. But, even if I were to remake it, it would have to star someone much younger.

Talking about Phool Aur Kaante, from that film to your latest one, you've been paired opposite a lot of south Indian actresses.
They're all extremely talented ladies. It is just a coincidence that most of my heroines are from the south. Take the case of Tamannaah for instance, she may be a newcomer in Bollywood, but she was a delight to work with, because she has 25 films' experience behind her.

We hear that you will be working with a south director next?
Yes, my next project is with Prabhuvdheva. It is going to be a complete entertainer.
