Sangeeta Bijlani getting her groove back

There was a time when Sangeeta Bijlani sparkled at every soiree, dressed stylishly and enjoying her spot in the sun as Mohammad Azharuddin's glamorous wife. But in July 2010, the former model-actress walked out from Azhar's life, after he was allegedly involved with badminton champ Jwala Gutta, and chose to be a recluse. Bijli, as she is still fondly called, initially stayed at her parents' house in Oshiwara, nursing her wounds, meeting few people and speaking to even fewer. But the self-imposed exile is now a thing of the past as the 53-year-old seems to have rediscovered some of her zest for life, with help coming in from the unlikeliest quarter - her former boyfriend Salman Khan and his family.

To begin with, Sangeeta has moved into a new apartment in Bandra, near Mount Mary Church. And she is frequently spotted at film parties and special screenings, often with Sallu's family. She is leaner and fitter and is socialising with members of the film fraternity. A source close to the actress said, "Recently, she met Rajiv Rai (who directed her in Tridev, which was a superhit). They spoke quite animatedly. It was a far cry from her frosty interactions of last year."

And Sangeeta has Salman and his sister Alvira to thank for this transformation. "She has been helping her get back into shape. Sangeeta has been working out at Salman's gym in Galaxy Apartments. Sallu has designed a specific workout regime for Bijli to look like a million bucks again. At times, Salman's personal trainer monitors her workouts," says the source.

"But it is Alvira who is Sangeeta's constant companion. She has really rallied around her after her marriage went kaput. She stood by her in her moment of crisis. It will not be wrong to say that Alvira is not only Sangeeta's friend but her philosopher and guide as well. They go out for shopping, movies and other simple chores," says a source close to Sangeeta.

The efforts are showing. The actress who has stayed away from the spotlight is ready for films and TV shows, especially the latter. A source from the TV industry told TOI, "For two years now she has turned down offers to appear in a popular dance reality show. Recently she has told the broadcasters of that show that she would love to appear as a judge, she doesn't want to contest it." What's more, producers and TV channels have been asked to contact Salman's manager if they want to get in touch with her for any professional assignment.

Even as the feisty actress puts her life back on track, we wonder if reconciliation with Azhar is ever possible. "She has no such plans," Sangeeta's friend said simply.
