1) Christian Bale was to play the title role in Noah but had to decline due to conflicting dates. The role then went to Russel Crowe who has often collaborated with Ridley Scott on his projects.
2) However, when it was time to cast for another Biblical character of Moses, the makers again went to Christian Bale and this time, the actor gave his nod of approval.
3) Joel Edgerton was caught unawares online when he started receiving a deluge of emails congratulating him on landing the role of Rhamses in the film.
4) Reportedly, Oscar Isaac and Javier Bardem turned down the role Rhamses.
5) MGM holds the rights for the title Exodus thanks to the 1960 release Exodus which is completely unrelated to the new film. The name was hence changed from merely Exodus to Exodus: Gods and Kings.
6) Ridley Scott is agnostic and confessed that this helped him convince himself that the story works.
7) Though he plays the character of Nun in the film, Ben Kingsley had essayed the role of Moses in the 1995 film, Moses.
8) To prepare for his role as Moses, Christian Bale read the first five books of the Bible, the Koran, as well as Louis Ginzberg's classic, Legends of the Jews and Jonathan Kirsch's Moses, A Life.
9) Since the film is based in Egypt, the possibility of having dark-skinned actors was discussed.
10) Exodus: Gods and Kings is the third film collaboration between director Ridley Scott and screenwriter Steven Zaillian. The two have previously worked together on Hannibal and American Gangster.
